It is clearly therefore essential that Lewisham A&E be closed down as soon as possible. Jeremy Hunt obviously had the right idea about this, as he does about so many other things.
If these performance standards are typical, then Lewisham is raising the NHS performance to a level that cannot be attained by other A&Es. However, by closing down Lewisham, the overall average can be lowered and therefore made more easily achievable by a greater number of less-well managed hospitals.
Don't think of it as "lowering standards", however - think of it as "making mediocrity accessible to all".

Mr Numbers, that is good thinking, but really all this lovely government need to do is redefine what 'poor health' means, just as they are redefining the meaning of 'child poverty'.
After all, if there is no illness, there is no need for hospitals.
Huzzah!

Yes PerryMan if you say so - But from actual experience, Lewisham should be turned into a Hip Replacement Centre as in around 2012 it was a centre of excellence, if that hasn't changed. Everything else and the people who supposedly run the hospital should undergo - psychiatric screening. Reasons? the list's too long for here.

Great Mr. Numbers but do you know the risk you are taking by praising - Jeremy Hunt? in a largely Labour voting area.
Plus the fact that Lewisham Hospital is the ideal political football for them, incorporating local GP surgeries who assume everyone votes Labour and will sign their petition - how about that?
When I passed the hospital and saw the posters for the political campaign against Jeremy Hunt, I thought how much better things would be if they would campaign for treating patients like human beings for a change, instead of their prime motive of hanging on to the NHS, financial gravy train.

Here's one for Perryman - how about educating the parents of these poor children - that it is their responsibility to bring up their children like everyone else and why should everyone else pick up the bill?
