Can those few people who are complaining please move along please ! :D

Complain about the old bank, if you want to complain, and not a growing business that is supporting the community!

Thanks for the post Robert. I think in an ideal world many local people would have liked a different use in that unit to add variety to the parade, but I am glad it is being given a secure long term future by a company that is committed to the area.

Can I make one suggestion -and this is a bit of a bugbear of mine - could you consider using signage that is sympathetic to the historic shopfront? As the corner unit, it is particularly important, along with the Old Bank, in setting the tone for the parade. Neroli, Pickwick, Hills and Parkes and Jumping Bean have all got this right (or nearly right), either using the wooden fascia itself or using plastic signage which at least fits within the original fascia. Thanks!

Robert has in the past kept people up to date and has been very open about his plans Kemamira

He's been in HOP longer than the majority of people who use this forum no doubt so good luck to him and his agency and let him do what he wants. Fingers crossed this along with the rest of the parade gets up and running to its full potential soon.

Well said Cheeky. For an area that purports great community spirit we do seem a tad critical at times.

The unit once complete will greatly enhance the look of the parade. Good luck with the final renovations on that Rob. It is great their activity in the community has been highlighted. Sebastian Roche have indeed been very involved indeed with local activities, sponsorship of schools fetes and prizes, church events and a local football team. They are now actively involved with a new traders group in HOP too to help promote businesses and up coming community events. This is all extremely positive and helpful for the community.

Agreed. I must admit I'm getting rather irritated by people moaning on here about the high street, the local businesses, the look of the shop fronts etc. Not everyone is happy about Sebastian roche expanding but it's done now. Move on. At least it's not another empty unit.

+1 Agreed, let's move on.

Was impressed with their sponsorship of the mobile farm at St Augustine's recently. A big hit with children and can't have been cheap.

Agree with cheeky.

And while it's nice if local businesses keep us informed via this forum (which, let's face it, is probably a small number of people in the area) it's not an obligation!

Totally agree with other recent posters. Rob was terrific when we sold our house (and moved elsewhere in FH), has been great at commenting on this forum previously when really he doesn't have to, and his business is an asset to the community. Think it'll be great when SR expand their smart shop into the Whitewood. Can moaners now stop moaning!

And also.......it's no wonder a lot of the local shopkeepers don't/don't want to engage on this forum when you read some of the quite nastily critical posts about them (cf the Local Shops thread).......

Heck, if you think this is bad you should read the Sydenham forum Scared

You're right Londondrz. I'm only on the Sydenham forum to balance out the xenophobes and racists. But they do at least debate wider issues, like we used to on here.

Even East Dulwich has gone a bit quiet lately, except for the complaints about the cost of buying houses (which has turned into a discussion on how to get a buy to let mortgage).

Virtual Snorewood has picked up a bit since the 'Chinese Take away' thread kicked off following the shock of somebody wanting to make a £500m investment.

However, local traders are often put off posting on local forums because the administrators consider it to be advertising and want to charge them. The rules are remarkably unclear in some cases but what can you do?

I go on some forums far ruder than the Sydenham forum, believe me! Wink

I don't think some of the comments on here, negatively critical bordering on rude, are conducive to engaging with local businesses, though.
