Just put a warning notice up saying this plant is classified as a controlled substance. It will be stripped to the ground within 24h.

One of the linked articles suggests not cutting the growth back to the ground unless you are ready to hit it with the chemicals or dig out the roots (as the plant will then focus its energy on root growth, which is the thing you have to get rid of with JKW).

Always thought that I was fairly safe from the stuff but I noticed that there is some growing in the front of one of the nice old apartment blocks opposite FH Sainsburys - and I live about 100 metres up the hill from there.

In case the last post by Steve Barron gets removed, with the very useful link to a company that removes Knotweed, I have made a note of address and can pass it on to anybody who wants it - not that I can recommend them personally.

I was really worried when I went to Dulwich Woods this weekend and saw a huge amount of knotweed just beyond the limits of the woodland. If knotweed got into the woods it could be devastating.

It seems that the only reasonable thing to do is get rid of devonshire road by means of exposives if necessary.

If it has spread from 20-220 we are all sc**wed.Crying

I used to treat it for Southwark and Haringey Council and now don't have the time to do it. I know a company that eradicates it, but i have to admit that i do act as a technical advisor to them. If anyone wants more info they are welcome to message me.

This spring appears to have been particularly good for Knotweed. I seem to see it everywhere. The battle in my garden has been temporarily won with no Knotweed coming up this year, but the plants are still just over the fence and need more killing.

But the sad thing was going for a walk in Sydenham Woods this weekend and Knotweed can be seen taking hold in a number of patches through the woods. I'm sure this must be a real danger to the survival of this woodland.

Interesting announcement made about DEFRA approval for this bug release made approximately one month ago.

It remains to be seen whether this is wonder cure will result in a "silver bullet" eradication or whether the country will have to endure a controlled level of infestation.
