Sainsbury’s Forest Hill has just announced their new charity of the year, Widehorizons. Each year Sainsbury’s choose a local charity to work in partnership with to help support their local community, Ruth HR Manager at Sainsbury’s said, “there was a lot of competition this year for the position but Widehorizons was our obvious choice because of the direct work they do in our community, especially with Forest Hill schools”. Sainsbury’s will be holding a variety of events over the year in store to help raise money for Widehorizons including; bake sales, fancy dress days and sponsored walks.

Widehorizons is a local charity that works with over 32,000 children every year, primarily in Greenwich and Lewisham, working closely with Forest Hill schools to provide adventurous experiences to young people through their outreach work in the community and their six outdoor centres across the UK.

With over half of the child population of the UK never having the opportunity to visit the countryside, Widehorizons believes that every child should have access to adventure as part of their education and throughout their lives. John Russell Widehorizons Chair commented, “Widehorizons know that adventure is a powerful personal development tool that helps enhance learning; allowing children to appreciate risk and reward, undertake physical and mental challenges and encourage vital teamwork and communication skills”. Adding, “Working in partnership with Sainsbury’s will help provide many more local children with their very own adventure”.

You can help Widehorizons to give a Forest Hill pupil an adventure today by texting MYSE23 to 70070.
