begs the question..... why the hell did Lewisham give them the contract to run the pools.?
Its just worrying that there is no signage on the actual building giving any indication of even what month they will be opening, and yet only a month ago there were people stood outside Forest Hill station giving out leaflets encouraging us to join the gym. miraculously since that flurry of activity there has been no further sightings of promotional activity from the pools.
I feel sorry for the people who actually paid out already for gym membership there.

Ha..that be me then Thumbdown

You're right nottinghillbilly - some kind of news or an update on why it is taking so long and any kind of estimated opening date would be helpful as whenever I call them it is just 'sometime in August' - which now seems to have been shifted back again. Also you're correct in saying that it does seem to be Fusion that is causing this hold up, as I believe WD are off site now with the exception of clearing up..

I thought it might be Fusion running this, just from what's on this page (I scrolled back a couple of forum pages to check).

Judging by how they've been handling the new pools in East Dulwich, which I've got experience of, Fusion have the FH Pools does not bode well at all I'm afraid.

Shame.

My undrestanding, from a fairly reliable source (you know who you are!!), is that the issue is not to do with Fusion but with the setup in the pools and it is being worked on.

Certainly best to get the teething troubles out the way before they open, but it is a shame that the pools were not open earlier, in time for school holidays. But we should really get too impatient after a six year wait/battle.

In the spirit of adding the level of knowledge on FH pools, they did indeed debit my bank account with the first month's membership fees. Very difficult to bet hold of them to discuss this, so I called their head office who were very helpful indeed. However, I also questioned them on their 'first 200, 3 months free' offer. I was told that this is only for those who pay the whole year up-front, i.e. you get 12 months and pay for 9. No mention of this restriction on their website, so after a number of calls going backwards and forward, we came to a solution. I see though they they still have not revised this on the website; they really ought to be transparent about their costs and offers. As for the opening time...at they very least Fusion should provide an update....

There seemed to be some movement outside the pools this morning as I drove past - shifting of barriers and the like. Anyone know if it about to open?

No annoucement from Fusion. They said that they would notify those who have already joined in advance of it opening when they had a date. Probably unlikely its opening...?

I'm patiently waiting for this to open. It's annoying, but oh well. They haven't debited my account and when I rang to sign up, they were quite clear about the offer, but I guess that's because I asked.
They have a good cancellation policy, so if it's rubbish we can give a month's notice and not go again. No 12-month contracts Smile

I'm looking forward to it...

I read today that you can get tours around the place as part of the London Open House weekend, which is 22 & 23 September, so presumably they're aiming to be open by then, at least...

(They're also doing tours of The Capitol, btw.)

If they open the pool in the next few weeks, it will be high profile news.
It will be an example of the Olympic legacy and Cameron and Lord Coe will praise it to the heavens to distract the nation from severe government cuts for funding facilities like these.

If the government want a big media event, that is fair enough, but Lewisham council need to secure favourable funding agreements in return.
Everyone's a winner, and maybe we get to see Boris hilariously fall in the deep end in another stage managed stunt.

I had a call from someone at Forest Hill pools saying the builders haven't handed over the building to Fusion yet and they're looking at first week in October for commencement of lessons..

Well shame on Fusion for such poor communication; at the very least they might keep their supporters informed. Needless to say such an opening date is hardly 'Summer'.....

How is the start date going back and back. Something wrong here, can smell a rat ( not in the pool I hope )
Perhaps the builders have diverted to The Sydenham Greyhound.

Same thing here actually, but the one I cancelled was Fusion in East Dulwich, and the Fusion FH people have taken a month's membership from my account......The worst thing is the radio silence. At the least, keep you punters updated, if you're monitoring this forum Fusion.

I have it on excellent authority (Rob the barber) that on inspection the council rejected the building work. The bricklayers allowed cement to leak over the bricks and harden. Having failed to remove it with acid, they've had to start removing and replacing the affected sections of wall. I saw bricks arriving this morning. The council were also unhappy with the mastic around the windows. There is now no planned opeining date.

Councillor Best repeated at the Portas Launch this evening that the official opening is going to be on 22nd September as planned. Let's just hope that swimming starts very close to that date and not much later (it would fit with lessons beginning in the first week of October and I'm sure Fusion do not want to keep giving out false dates again).

I notice FH pools are part of London Open House.

So that's going to be interesting.

Details of the official opening are now available at http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/ForestHillcelebrates

The official opening will take place on 22nd September and includes:
Taster sessions in the gym
Demonstrations in the pool
Guided tours
Photographic exhibition
History talk
Victorian storytelling
Wii gaming
Poetry

There even appears to be an opportunity to go for a swim. I can't wait!
