I think the 'Forest Hill Pools' metal signage on the side with the wave will look great.. what im not so keen on are the big white panel signage with Lewisham Council and standard boring font on prime display

Good to hear that operators would like to see our views to create the time table.
Let's hope our responses can be worked into a plan.

I have heard that the Pools will actually be opening in May rather than September. This makes sense to me as:
1) there is a May election and the Mayor will doubtless want to include the pools as a notable success in his campaign for re-election (I assume he is up for re-election, perhaps I am wrong about that); and
2) I remember there was originally a big push to get it opened before the olympics.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

I have been told my a couple of businesses along Dartmouth Road that the building/landscaping will be finished for May.. but it is unclear how long after that it will be until the pools actually open due to computer systems/training etc

Ciej,
The May elections are only for GLA and Mayor of London, not Lewisham council elections. I don't think Forest Hill pools in a major issue for London wide elections, and I doubt the pools will be opened quite so soon.
I would still love to see the pools open before the end of the Olympics and during the summer holidays. Whether this is possible we shall have to wait and see. What is good is that so far the opening of the pool has not slipped back further and September 2012 still seem like a reasonable target. How often to we hear of public sector projects taking years longer to complete than expected?

I've just seen an article on the Forest Hill Society web site that says that the council are aiming to open the pools in July, which is just what I was hoping for!
The official opening will be on 22nd September, and I hope that Britain's newest Olympic gold medallists in swimming will be invited!

Hi there
Can anyone tell me who is recruiting for Forest Hill Pools and who to address an application to? I am particularly interested in catering and hospitality management positions. Thanks!

Fusion. Ye gads, are they *really* managing the pools? Having seen what a mess the Catford Bridge pools have become I fear for ours before they have even opened..

I'm not sure you can blame Fusion for the current problems at The Bridge in Lower Sydenham (if that's what Ryananglem is referring to.) I suspect it was in a poor condition when they took it over from the previous management last year.

And I would add that there are problems at the Bridge Leisure centre with cleaning that cannot be blamed on the previous management.

I have been told by a few cutomers working on the pools that they are filling up the pool next Wednesday (health and safety) but still have lots to do. When I have asked if it will be ready for the official Sept opening, and the early opening in July, they have all said they think it might be ready sooner.

very exciting I must say. I use the pool in Beckenham for my toddler and being able to use a more local one will be fantastic

There were severe problems at the Bridge before and a total lack of concern from the staff and although things look better now with Fusion to a degree the pool and surrounding area isnt any cleaner. The staff appear to have been TUPE'd over in any case so are still there. The former cafe area isnt cared for at all and food and mess made just seems to sit there. The childrens soft play area remains the same filthy disgrace as its never been cleaned since Ive been using it which is 18 months and there are torn and potentially dangerous items lying around which could be inadvertantly used as ligatures. There is a torn area in the netting which takes children out of the main area and if they go in there it would be difficult to get a toddler back. I've complained about this for months and no one does anything.
People are still leaving their clothes in cubicles when using the pool and preventing others from using them and no one does anything about that despite lots of complaints. I have three children and a buggy and hence I find it annoying to find a single person has parked their stuff in there. Also there are fewer staff on reception than before. The poolside toilets are filthy still with overflowing bins. I had great expectations of Fusion but they have done no better. I dont know what to expect at Forest Hill therefore but as its a new pool under the spotlight they may want to get it right. I think the Dulwich baths made the mistake of having only one pool and one where childrens feet cant touch the bottom. There is always an increased demand therefore that probably cant be met.

I have been told the official opening will be on 22nd Sept, but they are still on track for opening earlier in July. The grand opening will be on the 22nd Sept even if they do open earlier and they want to involve local businesses one way or another on the opening day if possible. I have also been told the theme for the opening day is Victorian. I will keep you all posted if I find out more info.

Hello All,
We are taking names of people who are interested in Swimming Lessons. If you would like to put yourself or your child/children on our waiting list, please private message me. I would like the following details. Parents name, email address, telephone number, child(rens) name, child(rens) age(s) and there swimming ability e.g.) stage 3.
And to finish, a quick update on the pool. Everything (touch wood) is still on schedule for a July opening, we have now recruited staff for the centre, although we still have some vacancies to fill.
Hope your all enjoying the nice weather!

Can you provide an email address please so I know I am sending my child's information to the correct address (and not some random person).
I'm sure you understand.
Thanks
Kate
