I went for a swim yesterday, something that I don't get to do as often as I would like. Learner pool was the perfect temperature, main pool a bit cold in comparison but I'm sure about right for proper swimming. Showers were lovely and warm. Floors were clean. There was plenty of space for everybody in the pool. Basically everything I want from a swimming pool.
A lot of the lockers appeared to be out of action and the cafe wasn't very inspiring, but these are trival things in such a pleasant pool. I'm so pleased we have this pool in forest hill.

I find that the warmer the temperature outside the colder the water in any pool seems. I put it down that in warmer weather there is greater difference in air and water temperature and therefore the water appears colder. Does anyone have a better explanation?
On the other hand, after years of swimming I tend to prefer the water on a colder side despite the difficulty in getting in.

I definitely feel the pool HAS got colder than when it first opened, and especially more recently when the outside temperature has been far from balmy.
If you visit Beckenham Spa (which I tend to do as they have much more opportunity for general swim in multiple lanes in the evening than we do at FHP) the temperature in the main pool is noticeably warmer than in FHP.
I love our local pool but still feel there is room for improvement regarding cleanliness, maintenance, and main pool timetable.

After I raised my concerns a couple of weeks ago, I had a really good offline conversation with some of the people who manage the pools.
Apparently the main pool is kept between 26 and 28 degrees, and the learner pool is kept between 28 and 30 degrees. I had initially raised the point that the learner pool was too cold for our baby daughter and they politely (and correctly, I guess) pointed out that it's a learner pool and not a baby pool (apparently a baby pool would be kept a few degrees warmer).
Both pools are regulated by an automated system which will increase the temperature when it falls below the lower threshold.
Heating the volumes of water which fill both pools is obviously a significant source of expenditure. Might that be the reason the pools are kept at the lower end of the recommended scale?

Having been in both pools they are undeniably at the lower end of the temperature scale.

pool was warm tonight, showers were hot and good flow of water. I didn't see a topless swimmer but was amazed at the lady who got changed standing next to the lockers. You go girl.

Can we have more warning regarding the forum meetings in future?
getting home from work and reading the post at 6.30pm on the day of the meeting does not give enough time to make arrangements to attend.

I know not strictly related to the "Pool", I'm thinking of joining the gym at Forest Hill Pools. Would anyone be able to tell me how busy it gets in the evenings please? I used to go to the one in East Dulwich and more often than not you had to queue for every machine in the evening. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Might be more tempted to vote for you if you'd answered the question just posed by a would-be customer!

Mr Nottinghillbilly uses the gym regularly. He usually gets there after work around 5pm and reports no problem getting onto the machines. He also tells me because there are usually two machines for each type of exercise there will always be at least one free. But if the machines are busy people should be conscious and alternate sets?
He does find the cardio machines get busier but there are nice hills in FH to run up and down

Thank you! I decided the best way to find out was to pop down myself this evening and check it out. And if it is busy I may resort to running up and down the numerous hills and save the money!

I was just wondering if it would be possible to put FHP class cancellations
in a dedicated post on this forum?
For about the 4th time I've arranged a day off work specifically to attend the Aqua fit class at 3pm today.
I checked the timetable this morning, considered ringing to double check the class was happening but after an incident a couple of weeks ago having phoned in the morning to be told yes it was happening and then finally being told at 3pm once in the pool that the class was cancelled that I may as well turn up anyhow.
Reception informed me the class was cancelled as no replacement teacher could be found.
This totally messed up my afternoon as I'd rushed back from west London especially.
Surely the pool manager must get some notice that a teacher is unable to take a class and it wouldn't take much to just post a message on SE23 the moment he/she hears this so that we know where to check.
It would also save reception wasting time answering phone queries.
