Any advice greatly appreciated on getting out of London tomorrow morning by car. We are heading of to the M4 and the West Country. We'd normally go through the South Circ and Hammersmith. Hammersmith Bridge appears to be open tomorrow during the pageant but not sure about other impacts on this area. The Tfl advice is to avoid central London but not sure whether Hammersmith might be included in that however its the first bridge open its likely to be congested ?Also thought of the M3 but that has similar issues, the alternative is possibly to head straight south or via Bromley to the M25 and doing it that way thereby avoiding all inner city roads.

Your views would be appreciated. We will probably be leaving home around 10am, sooner would be a miracle, and we dont believe in those. Thanks in advance.

Link below appears to be the up-to-date TfL position

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/j...3-june.pdf

It appears to provide days and times of closures in a zone-by-zone format.

North of the river, Earls Court Road appears to be the furthest west road-closure.

Hardest assessment may be to estimate what displaced traffic will do to those routes and bridges that remain open.

Hi, thanks for your response, JG. I am not sure if we can rely on not too much traffic west of these bridge closures. We took a risk once before and were pleasantly surprised as we just sailed out of London however think we will just head for the M25 via Purley tomorrow and stick to the main routes and hope that everyone who was leaving London has already gone and that everyone else is coming in the other direction!

Looking at traffic movement today, keeping on the south circular to Kew Bridge may prove to be the best option and once across the bridge take that shortcut up Lionel Road South (it is poorly sign-posted and looks like a back-road but is very effective) that brings you directly onto a slip-road for the M4.

Watch out however if you miss that little turn-off onto Lionel Road South as there appears to be a 45 minute delay at the next main roundabout.

You are right that the M25 + M3/M4 triangle might avoid all problems.

If you are going to the South West, why not take the A303 which takes you past Stonehenge?
Take the South Circular around to Wandsworth, up West Hill into Putney Vale, Kingston Hill, etc, to Sunbury via Hampton. At Sunbury pick up the M3 and then A303.

Thanks for all your replies. We eventually decided to head off via Purley and the new link road to the M25 which avoids Coulsden. It probably isnt that new but we havent been down there for a while. Probably the long way round but we managed to avoid any hold ups. Getting to the West Country seems to be fairly easy on the M4 only 4 hours from home door to door!
