I'm in the middle on this one - I think the numbers, especially at the beginning, were probably reduced quite a lot by the fact it rained at the start and remained greyish and uncertain until mid-afternoon. We were a bit sceptical due to lack of publicity etc., but went along to the party and by mid-afternoon, it was reasonably cheerful, with kids enjoying the road closures, a maypole, some nice food and drink etc. Certainly not the Marmora Rd one, which sounds epic, but not a washout either. The lack of publicity was surprising though - we received a newsletter with details 2 days before and an email a day before, and we'd seen one poster on top of the hill too. Before that we were very uncertain whether it was happening, and I was surprised that no one responded to my post a few weeks ago on this forum, surely an obvious channel of local communication, to say that it was. Surely it wouldn't be hard to publicise a bit more than this, and the need for volunteers could have been publicised more too - there are a lot of enthusiastic and creative people around, but apart from a mention ages ago in a single newsletter, there doesn't seem to have been much effort to attract help and entertainment. It's a great place for a party with the road closed, perhaps an opportunity to take more advantage of in future summer parties. And if people aren't happy with the residents' association, I guess it's rather important that more of us try to get involved.
