I never really understood it. What is that odd strip of glass or plastic the young man is wearing over his eyes - some sort of sunglasses? And what is the point of that very improbable-looking steam locomotive?

With regard to the green paint, it's probably a matter of taste. However, I do think that particular shade is very dead, as if it sucks in the light, making the approach to the subway rather gloomy. It's one of those things that you can't predict until it's done.

Perhaps a nice beige Michael. It's the cheap white cladding that I like the least.

Which just goes to prove you can't please everyone because I like the cladding.

A local resident got in touch to say she is fed up with how dirty the white cladding has become after a couple of years in position, and offering a DIY solution.

As a result we are looking for additional volunteers to spend an hour with a bucket and mop/sponge on Saturday morning (11th April) at 10:30am, for a bit of guerrilla cleaning.

With a few people getting involved we will have the underpass walls looking shiny and new rather quickly.

If you are interested in joining in please contact me by PM or michael@foresthillsociety.com

and if you have a similar idea for an hour long project to make the town look better, I would be happy to help turn your ideas into reality - but be prepared to get your hands dirty or clean!

Unfortunately I was not able to help out on Saturday but I saw the results of the hard work on Sunday. The cladding looks like new.....

I walked through there yesterday. I swear it even smelled better!

An inspired idea, superbly executed, terrific result! Well done, everyone - and thank you!

Yes excellent effort from all concerned.
Out of interest who should be cleaning it?
