Well done to you too Londondrz for getting out there and standing up to them. I hope you're not badly hurt, and that the efforts of both you and the gent who stopped meant that the yoof were prevented from taking said motorbike?

Thanks LWL, no injuries. He tried to hit me with a heavy bike chain which is as much use as a chocolate fire guard in hitting people. I was armed with my trusty 4-cell Maglite and although I had a few opportunities to give him a tonk on the head it was just not worth it.

Unfortunatley one of the bikes was damaged when he tried to hit me and I dodged.

The gent who came past was in his car so the odd's started looking in my favour, he was good enough to phone the police. The good lady Mrs LondonDRZ also added her tuppence by giving a hearty yell at the yoof whilst on the phone to the police.

Well done londondrz. I would have done the same, but thank goodness you are OK. I have in the past asked groups of youths to stop sitting on my and my neighbours cars and normally they travel on but on 1 occasion they started throwing traffic cones at me, and I did run indoors sadly to say. So well done for sticking with it and glad to hear you are not hurt.

Can I ask if you are a big fella or confident in handling yourself in a physical altercation (fight)?

I must confess, I wouldn't have done the same as it could easily turn out badly for the sake of just saving someone's bike.

I would have got straight on the phone or videoed the incident first with my phone.

Dongle, I dont just jump in. Measure the threat and respond in an appropriate manner.

Both were about 16 to 17, the larger one was about 6 foot 4 but very skinny and the other was on the scooter. When they decided to stick it out and fight it was very much bravado, the lanky lad with the chain was very obviously not keen on the altercation and I was quite determined.

Had either of the had any more threatening weapons i.e. screwdriver, knife I would have been running away yelling like a little girl.

I did know however that my wife was on the phone to the police, I was motivated, the yoof were less than motivated and, although it was years ago, I am ex Military Police.

Videoing sounds like a good idea but given the quality of most phones, the fact that in order to video them I would be within striking range anyway and finally, they had a helmet and hood on. Great for Youtube but useless for the police.

Thank you Milliepop but I am no hero. I was scared and did not want to get injured but I was more peed off that these idiots wanted to steal a neighbours pride and joy and one he worked hard to buy.

I am just upset that these two idiots are given more human rights than we are so can sit on their a***s and draw the dole whilst we slog our guts out.

Judging from the language you use and your background you sound like you've had some training/experience in these matters - so the ideal neighbour to have!

Agree wholeheartedly with you that these losers can sit back and do jack whilst the decent people in this world have to actually work hard for a living and good life - hopefully what goes round will come round to them eventually Cursing

While I applaud anyone who stands up to thieves, and hope they get punished (if not for this then for the next crime they commit) I find the assumption that they are on the dole, as are other 'losers', to be highly offensive.

You might lose your job tomorrow, be unable to find another one, and one day have no choice but to claim benefits in order to survive.

Oryx, I related these comments directly to the two involved and no-one else.

I was on the dole for two days once after being made redundant once, at no stage was I tempted to go out and steal other peoples property. I dont know any decent hard working people who feel the need to go out and steal as must of us/them can put a personal value on possessions.

How did you now these people were on the dole - did they show you their signing on cards?Rofl

I'm not just referring to your comments BTW. This isn't the first time I've heard people on here jumping to conflate signing on with criminality.

There are plenty of decent people out of work/unable to work and getting benefits, and there are plenty of criminals who hold down jobs.

Nothing wrong with having a rant about criminals, just don't assume criminals are claimants and vice versa.

I love how people are so quick to jump on the band wagon when sometimes makes a fleeting statement - most normal people do not assume all thieves and the bad people in this world are on the dole Cursing

Don't think Londondrz meant any wrong to ppl on the dole it was just 1 comment. we all make comments and don't think about them. I am guilty of it, as I just don't think sometimes. I take my hat of to Londondrz for saving his neighbours bike. Wish you were my neighbour Londondrz.
