Does anybody know if there is still a singles night at Sainsbury's on a tuesday evening? This certainly used to be the case and was a great way to meet like minded single people in FH.

Don't know but am amused by the concept.

I would have thought that it is pretty obvious from the contents of someone's basket whether they are single or not. You can peer at others shopping any day of the week.

Would married/partnered people not be allowed in on Tuesday evenings? Would you need to have to show some sort of ID to prove you were single?

No proof required, or dress code in my previous experience!! But I do have a suspician that there was something of a code operating regarding what is in your basket. Tiger prawns anyone?

Interesting. I do recall similar rumours when we first moved to Forest Hill back in 1987. I think there was a thread about this last year / year before? I was never clear it was true but its interesting that somebody else remembers it. Puts FH on a similar footing to Purley.

I can confirm that after 9pm on Saturday nights is definitely singles hour if anyone else wants to check it out. I am there at the single open checkout with my family sized trolley indicating strongly that I am not single, this being the only time I get to do the shopping, everyone else is there with their baskets containing coke, crisps, lager, condoms and deodorant. I have seen many a romance blossom over the self serve.

Odd because it always used to be Tuesday night, has anybody seen any sign of this lately. I don't think the Sydenham branch has every done this, perhaps is just a FH thing?

We were told it was a speciality of FH and not Saino's in general. Being a recently married couple at the end of the 80's we never investigated....
Maybe it died out in the early 1990's recession when so much in FH shut down?

Well Erikose, try it again and see, if you've been married since the '80s it may be time to spice things up!

No really, seems a good idea to me and cheaper than Guardian Soulmates - and of course you are pretty much guarenteed a local partner, which might be an advantage. And now we've got all these cafes and the splendid Sylvan Post there is somewhere to repair to after locking eyes over the condiments.
