We were burgled this evening on Vancouver Road, hurstbourne road end.

The burglar climbed over the garden gate and smashed a window. Fortunately, not much was taken. My partner's late father's watch was stolen which is of great sentimental value. Please be aware and make sure your windows, gates and doors are secured. Don't be a dimwit like me and leave spare keys in a really obvious place.

I have also heard of burglaries on Como Road and Cranston road in the past few weeks. Seems there's a lot of it around. In one of the burglaries the person was in at the time. Unfortunately it means locking the doors and windows in hot weather if you are upstairs...having said that I do still feel this is a fairly safe area...

Time for barbed wire over back fence and gate. That will sort them.

We had a visit from the safer neighbourhood team yesterday who advised that a number of houses on vancouver, pearfield, carholme, cranston, kilmorie and hurstbourne have been burgled in recent weeks. A 13 and 14 year old have been caught for some of these crimes, apparently they will ring the doorbell first before attempting to access the back or side of the properties. They will then go on to steal items with a quick resale value such as laptops, ipods, computer games and alcohol.
Was also advised that if it was a kid that burgled us chances are nothing will happen to them.

Burglary was mentioned at the Perry Vale Ward Assembly last week. They said there has been an increase in burglaries in the ward, although it wasn't the highest in the borough. Apparently there's a pattern of accessing the property from the rear, during the day, and particularly on Fridays.

I also recently heard that a woman was mugged on Woolstone Road. A man stopped her to ask for directions and then pulled off the necklace from around her neck.

It's sad when you have to be wary of people asking you for help.

Also lots of burglaries in the Devonshire Road area. Again, access by smashing back door/window during the day or on weekend...

there was another today on Taymount rise, 11am-the householder was in at the time screamed and they ran off-I believe that they burgled the neighbouring house, then rang the doorbell of the house next door and when no-one responded they broke in the back and confronted the householder in her bedroom.
very scary.

If any burglar tries to smash my back doors in you would certainly hear my scream. Crying

Last week we were burgled on Kemble Road. There was nobody home at the time (Fri mid-morning!) and they jumped over our back fence, smashed our back door glass and turned the place upside down, taking a load of easily portable things.

We moved to FH at the start of October 2011 from north London. We very much like the area and we're not going to let this colour our view. But there's clearly a lot of house-breaking around in FH at the moment so I thought I was worth letting people know so we can all be vigilant.

We are still awaiting a repsonse from the police regarding the dna evidence. I find this very unnerving that there has been so many break-ins during the day! It's bad enough we were robbed at night but can't believe thieves are doing it in broad daylight too!

We have scoured all the pawn shops and the cash converters in ladywell looking for my late father-in-law's watch but no such luck. Crying

I have been burgled three times in various parts of London, always during the day. It's when people tend to be out. Breaking in at night when people are at home is probably a lot more risky. In the summer, I only leave the back door to the garden unlocked if I'm staying in the kitchen. If I'm going to any other part of the house, it gets locked.

Pleased to be able to report that an arrest has been made! Hoping he is also responsible for some of the other burglaries and people can get their stuff back and move on!

Glad an arrest has been made. If he is the guilty party would be interesting to know how many years he is put away for.
