Apparently still a little longer to wait (weeks not days).

I keep wandering up there to see of progress but it always seems the same. Looks like there may currently be more focus on The Copperfield at Catford Bridge at the moment. Soon to reopen as The Catford Bridge Tavern in an Antic stylee.

I was thinking the same thing so I stuck my head in there on Wednesday to ask when I might be able to get a drink there. The builders said they'd been waiting for paint for 3 weeks and that it would be another month...so prob end of Feb now.

This new pub in Forest Hill is due to open in 'a couple of weeks' now, according to the company.

Yep, got a email from Fi via their mailing list confirming the same. According to their Facebook page it looks like it will open very close to same day as the new Catford Bridge Tavern, formerly Copperfilelds.

Hooray for new local boozy options and hopefully lots of different real ales!

Sorry if this obvious, but where does the 'Sylvan' name come from?
I'm assuming the 'Post' is because of the buildings original function.

From what I have read..Sylvan means 'Forest'... ?

Wiki says: Sylvan or Silvan refers to an association with the woods. Specifically, that which inhabits the wood, is made of tree materials, or comprises the forest itself. The term can also refer to a person who resides in the woods or a spirit of the wood. In mythology, the term also refers to deities or spirits of the woods.

Official! Opens 28th of February. Should be a good addition to the area. I'm sure i'll be a regular when I return to Forest Hill.

I went in there and the builders said they'd been waiting three months for a PINT!

Yes, opening on 28th, and hopefully they'll be doing a better quiz than the Hob's - which is a bit annoying these days.

The Hob is still great, it's just the quiz isn't about general knowledge, but about finding links between Ronnie Corbett, bananas and the undubbed version of Bladerunner.

I prefer a more straight forward quiz.

I understand. That is a tricky quiz question. Not my cup a tea or pint of beer either.

But I do like some of The Hob's quizmasters. Particularly that bloke who dresses up in hilarious costumes.

And Steve Frost (Whose Line Is It Anyway? and the British TV advertisements ending with the catchphrase "I bet he drinks Carling Black Label") is always good value when he takes to the stage.

Steve Frost

The Sylvan Post is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the pub collective of Forest Hill.

Good luck with future quiz nights and I look forward to taking my general lack of general knowledge to the Sylvan Post.
