Walking whilst reading

I do sometimes walk whilst I read, making sure that I look up frequently to see what is going on around me. I wouldn't dream of doing this if I was unable to hear approaching people/traffic etc. It just sounds downright dangerous! I also wouldn't do it on roads I don't know - on my route home I know where the problems on the pavement might be!
