Hi -

Does anyone living at the top of Taymount Rise (Grassmount, Taymount Grange or Forest Croft probably) own, or know who owns, a largish predominantly white male cat with some black patches and long fur?

The reason I'm asking is that it is coming into my and also some of my neighbours houses and spraying which is smelly and horrible! And easily sorted out by neutering the cat.

I could/should perhaps invest in a high tech cat flap but my cat ends up losing the collars all the time so it ends up being very expensive and annoying.

Many thanks.

We use a PetPorte cat flap which only allows your cat in. It uses their vet microchip so no collars required. Also allows you to automatically lock them in when it's dark.

Works like a charm at keeping the neighbour's cats out.

Not cheap but better than another cat spraying your house.

Hi,
There is a cat fitting this description, (mainly white with tortoiseshell patches & "squirrel like tail with markings") who lives on Knapdale, the two blocks of flats adjacent to Taymount ... not sure if male or female but is out a lot. I have seen it around (from Shackleton Close, which also backs on to you) and sorry to hear it's a pain Thumbdown

Spraying is stinky and apart from that (if it is the male causing you probs. & the one I see out) it will probably be impregnanting female cats that other owners have not bothered to have spayed. That's what happens when you get a cat and let it out to roam but do not bother to spay or neuter it. Bad pet ownership/care Sad

Good luck!

Regards
Sue

PS I have also seen a similar = mainly white but with markings (but different) cat in the Alley Way (Spring ? something- sorry been a long work day and can't recall lol - down to opposite S'Bury's anyway) between Shackleton Close, sometimes, who I think lives in the flats or houses up Derby Hill, so either could be the culprit Sad
Not far to you, from either direction; just an under/over fence manouvre Closedeyes

We had the same situation at our place however never actually caught the culprit, we had our suspisions but never caught him in the act which I think made it worse. On 3 occassions we came home to find the foul stench of cat spray in our kitchen and hallway and our 2 cat bowls licked clean (which is a very rare occorrence), one time it happened when we were actually in!!! The cheek of it!!

If it's any help, we did get a magnetic catflap and magnetic collars for our little fellas which solved the issue completely, I had been told tom cats are pretty strong and will get in but so far which ever one it was, hasn't.

Also, we hunted down the best way to get rid of the smell and found that using a mixture of biological washing liquid/powder mixed with hot water did the best job. It breaks down the "MINGING!!!!!" fatty deposits in their spray or something like that. The hardest thing though is to actually find where the bloomin thing sprayed in the first place as the smell takes over the whole house. I am invisaging people on their hands and knees sniffing the skirtings, cupboards and table legs as I write this!!!

Good luck with it, we feel your pain.

Were fairly certain the cat is not from Grassmount although many of us have suffered from its 'actions' :-(
