Police was on the hunt this morning (helicopter + cars) in Perry Rise and Pearfield road trying to catch a black man with a machete.

They said he may have ditched the machete as he run away, and asked to be notified straight away by anyone who finds it.

Indeed, however it was probably part of the attraction for a burglar.
Had he tried to break in somewhere and been discovered? Machetes aren't usually the stock trade of a standard house burglar unless something particularly violent is intended.

Yes indeed Roz. This gentleman seems to have gone on an attempted robbery with a lethal weapon.

I wonder what will happen to him if he gets caught. Possibly attemped manslaughter.

It can happen anywhere, Brian.

I live very close to Pearfield Road and heard the helicopter circling almost overhead. I had the backdoors and windows open as it was such a lovely day but closed and locked them when I saw how close the helicopter was. It wouldn't be the first time a burglar has come sprinting across our back gardens during daylight hours. But I've never seen one with a machete.

I was wondering what the police helicopter was doing, it was hovering almost right over my house yesterday. Eke!

When I heard Pearfield road I was surprised because its probably one of the safest roads in FH. I suspect that the burglar was actually trying to burgle a house in Perry Rise and ran through the alleyway into Pearfield. The idea being to cut off the police cars in Perry Rise who cant go through the Alleyway (Alleyways are a nuisance in this respect). The alleyway between Sunderland and Trilby has been mentioned as a crime spot several times.

The description of the suspect is as useless as ever because there is no mention of his age range, height & dress style etc. The fact that he was carrying a machete might only be because he intended to use it as a lever bar to gain entry.

I heard some very angry/abusive shouting on Siddons Road very shortly before the police turned up (vans, then the helicopter a little while later). Wonder if that was connected Unsure

On Friday the police knocked at a hostel for young people (In Lewisham) to ask if all our residents were ok as they were seeking someone chasing a young man through gardens/street with a machete.
Are you sure the machete owner was actually a burglar? could be that he didn't get who he wanted the first time? seems unlikely kit for a burglar.

All our youngsters were present and correct Smile

There is footage of a machete wielding nutter on YouTube from last month in Brockley, might be the same nutter.

Nutter. Surely he has human rights. You could be sued.

Fraid not Brian, this fellow is a well known fruit loop of the very nuttiest kind! Well you would have to be to take on most of the police (and a wheely bin) from SE London.

How do you know he isn't, Brian? (I'm assuming we are talking about the character in the video, not the man with the machete).

In relation to the original post – if a "burglar" is "unsuccessful" then how can he be called a burglar? Maybe an 'unsuccessful window opener" but burglar he ain't.

I know someone who is not a burglar, but walks the streets of SE23 armed with a machete. It's a jungle out there!
