Hi - Just had a guy call round from SIG Energy Management Company, he measured our loft and has said we are eligable for a grant as part of the Government Utility Funds Act on C02.
We had to fill out a form and did not have to part with any money. All seemed very professional however just wanted to check if others had the same experience in the area as Im wary of receiving something for nothing!
Thanks
Clare

Do you qualify under any of the terms set out on the attached website?
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Environmenta.../DG_064374
Did they ask you abt benefits you claim etc? If not, the likelyhood is that you might not be entitled to the grant, however, (and now comes the smart bit) it has been hightlighted that you need the insulation and they will do it for a small fee.
Would be interested to the outcome.

Resurrecting this thread as have been approached before by a company which was engaged in a scam as described.
However, have just booked loft insulation install at zero cost (to us) with Saving Energy Ltd who are being funded by various councils including Lewisham. The only requirement was that the existing insulation is less than 60mm.
Hurry, scheme finishes soon:

Something that is often overlooked when increasing the thickness of loft insulation is that under certain circumstances it can cause an increase in loft condensation - with all the associated problems of damp and rot. So be aware. The following newspaper article explains more:

Ok, thanks for the heads up. They are also going to insulate loft hatch and lag pipes and tanks which I think should mitigate this.

We have just had cavity wall insulation with Saving Energy - free. Offer runs out I believe at the end of November, so book it by then.
And our house is noticeably warmer now.
