There's no direct night bus service from Catford to Forest Hill, however the N171 runs along Stanstead Road as far as the Jenner before heading towards Brockley Rise.
Ideally, the 185 would become a 24 hour service like the 176.

TfL kindly put the 185 out overnight on New Years Eve/Day, however they didn't take the opportunity to do that 24/7.
Crazy how you can get to Penge at 2am, but not Catford or Lewisham on a bus!

In my 'going out in Clerkenwell' days, I used to get the N63 home and then walk from Wood Vale. It's a reliable service and was always half empty when I caught it - but such a shame it doesn't stop closer to the centre of Forest Hill.

I think we are very lucky to enjoy such an extensive Public Transport system.
Most people outside London would think we are mad complaining. Even in quite large towns the last bus in about 7pm.
If you really need to get to or from Catford at 2pm then I guess you could walk , if fit , or get a Taxi.

Anyone have a few quid for Southern, trains delayed last week due to "poor rail conditions".

I've been checking the timetable changes for December and see New Cross Gate will see 6tph return off-peak on Mondays to Saturdays with the use of two services from Horsham to make up the shortfall left when Southern axed the Sutton service.
The official line is to make connections to East Croydon and Gatwick easier for London Overground passengers.

Well at least for us, we can change at New Cross Gate if there's a connecting service for the new London Bridge trains.

There will only be 5 trains (one more than at present) from London Bridge to New Cross Gate and on to Forest Hill. I would still like to see a couple of fast trains out of LB stopping at NXG. This would allow LB commuters to have more opportunities to get to Forest Hill by changing to Overground and would also allow Docklands passengers to Surrey to switch to the fast trains at NXG.
Southern have shown that it is possible to squeeze another service on the slow line, and I'm sure that they could allow a couple of trains to stop at NXG.

I think that will be difficult with the Thameslink upgrade, possibly after 2015, but by then we might have direct trains to Kings X, which would be almost as good.

Not really for me personally as I don't go out / work in King's Cross. Like me, there are an awful lot of performers eg actors and musicians who would appreciate these trains coming back!

It will very handy if you work in the northern end of city as it currently takes me about 45mins (one train, two tubes) to get to Great Portland Street.
This will open up travel to many areas in London with just one interchange which is very good news.

Don't forget that Kings Cross trains to FH would also stop at Blackfriars. I'm not saying its a perfect replacement to the Charing Cross trains, but a couple of stops on the tube from there and then up to the rail station at Blackfriars may prove to be better than going to London Bridge.

We've also got an extension of the ELL to look forward to in the new year as all trains from FH will call at Canonbury and Highbury and Islington which will give us another alternative to get to Kings Cross via the Victoria Line. (Or maybe discover Walthamstow at the other end!)
However the Thameslink extension will give us a direct link to Farringdon for the Metropolitian, H&C and Circle lines and Blackfriars for the District and Circle.
I know it's five years down the line, but I suspect Thameslink will replace the 2tph off-peak service to Caterham with Southern only providing the Victoria to London Bridge service, with the rest being provided by London Overground to Highbury and Islington/West Croydon/Crystal Palace.

The reason for this change in December 2008 was to fit around a revised service pattern implemented by Southeastern. This means that where our Charing Cross trains used to fit around Southeastern they couldn't any more. We've looked at this issue since, but unfortunately it isn't really practical to run through to Charing Cross as there is simply no slot we can fit in any more so it is likley that we will just run to London Bridge for the forseeable future.

Sydenham Society have a good write up on today's Thameslink announcement:
http://www.sydenhamsociety.com/2010/11/t...crossrail/
My only question is; are there still plans to cut peak trains from Forest Hill in 2012 and to end the Inner South London Line. These service reductions were to allow for the rebuilding of London Bridge, but this doesn't seem to be starting until 2015.

I could find neither Sydenham nor Forest Hill stations on the Thameslink 2000/2018 map. Does this mean that Thameslink trains will not be stoppin[/u]g at our stations??
