What was the east end of the old Christ Church in South Road has been converted into a worship space (chapel) and community resource and was rededicated yesterday by the Bishop of Woolwich. The parish church of what is now the parish of St George's Christ Church and St Paul's is in Vancouver Road, on the site of the old St George's. The new chapel is to be known as 'The Chapel on the Hill' and various activities will be starting there from this week.

I saw the little party, nice to see that beautiful building returning to use.
Ironic that the day before, we walked the dogs past and commented on how long it's been saying opening soon.

I accompanied my wife to the parish church service this morning, and picked up some information about activities at the Chapel on the Hill. They include:
'Sacred Space' every Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm - Chapel open for people to drop in for a bit of peace and quiet, without harrassment or hassle
Eucharist every Thursday at 6.30 pm, lasts about forty minutes.
'Bible Academy' for those with little or no knowledge about the Bible. Thursday evenings 30 September, 7, 14 and 21 October. High-powered speakers: Bishop David Atkinson (previously Archdeacon of Lewisham); Jeffrey John (Dean of St Albans); Rev Dr Sharon Moughtin-Mumby, Old Testament scholar; Bishop Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Woolwich.
