Is anybody else planning to go to this on Tuesday?
I am feeling a bit lunched/dinnered out with all the xmas meals, and more still to come. But I have not been to The Bank before and have been meaning to for a couple of years, so I am planning to go along.

I hope to see a few of the forum regulars in there. Please try to book in advance and mention the '23 Club' so that we can all sit together.

Hi, had thought about going but like you have been out a lot recently so think it might be best to save some pennies! However I am looking forward to Burns Night at the Honor Oak in January so will defo be going along to that.
I have a book of Burns poems so can bring that along. Presumably Jamie et al will be doing the formal toast to the haggis - if not we can always do our own!

I found out that there are no bookings for the 23 Club for this evening, but don't let that stop you heading down there for a pre-Christmas treat. We always knew that two days before Christmas was not likely to the most popular 23 Club. However, next month is the Burns Night Special. I hope you will join us for this.

In other food news, Brockley Central has an article today about one of the best restaurants in SE23 (if not all of South East London) - Babur Brasserie

Not sure how the last event went (any write ups out there from anyone who went?) but we are fast approaching an event with a difference so thought I'd start the haggis rolling.

23rd January is close-enough to Burns night for it to be an excuse to celebrate it. So, I've helped to arrange (being an 'interested party') with Jamie at The Honor Oak to host the 23 Club there this month.

There will NOT be too much overt kiltedness (unless I feel like it on the night), but Jamie is offering a free starter plate of Haggis, Neeps N' Tatties (only starter size so you can try it if you feel like it) for anyone who calls (020 8690 8606) and books in the name of the 23 Club. The rest of the meal is up to you.

We will have a special guest on the night to Address the Haggis (no, it does not have an SE23 Postcode - it is a poem by Robert Burns. Translations will be offered for those hard of Scottishness). I don't want to ruin the surprise, but basically since there isn't one, I should tell you it will be my father.

This looks like being a well attended event if my initial chats with people are anything to go by, so do get in there quick so we can make arrangements for a suitably sized table.

There is an outside chance of a malt whisky tasting - if you are interested, but this is not a requirement, don't worry

Remember that the 23 Club is a social club with a difference, it aims to bring local residents together, particularly members of the Forest Hill Society (you can always join on the night), but also supports our many and varied local hostelries that badly need our support this year.

Hope to see you there, and at future events

Well, I may be the only one writing about it here, but there are already around 20 people booked for Friday's event, but it would still be nice to meet more SE23 contributors

See you there!

27 people made it to the 23 club last night. Thanks to everybody who came along and enjoyed the evening. Especially to Rob's father who addressed the haggis for us.

It is great to see another idea that started on SE23.com become more popular every month, so why not join us next month.

It's not too early to book for the next 23 club:
Monday, February 23 at 8pm ? Tse?s, 54 London Road SE23 3HF Phone 8291 0019

I too work in central London during the week but would definitely be interested in non-lunch meets. The Burns Supper at the Honor Oak was excellent!

Next Monday, February 23 at 8pm we will be at Tse?s, 54 London Road SE23 3HF. If you would like to join us call Tse's directly on 8291 0019 and mention the 23 Club.

I personally recommend their vegetarian feast, a really good selection of Chinese vegetarian dishes to share, and who better to share it with than the 23 club!

I hope to see a few of the se23.com people at tomorrow's 23 club. Please do phone and book so that we know how big a table we need.

Unfortunately I forgot all about it . Any plans for 23rd March?

Is it generally easy to come on your own to these things? I'm not known for being a particularly shy person, but it is however the one thing that puts me off just turning up on spec.

Plans for 23rd March at 8pm are classic Italian
The Old Bank, 76-78 Honor Oak Park SE23 1DY Phone 8291 1738

We did try to make it there in December, but 23rd was too close to Christmas, so we cancelled. However, we want to give it another try in March!

Singles, couples, families are all welcome. We usually have one or two people who turn up by themselves.

Yesterday evening we did not have many people but it was one of my favourites. As well as great food we got to speak to a woman who keeps a rat as pets and a man who worked in Bletchley Park during the war, before working as a British spy. If you want to meet similarly interesting diner companions without the hassle of dating, please join us at future events.

We had 14 people at the Old Bank from the 23 Club on Monday, some old faces, some new faces. All seemed to enjoy a good meal.

The next 23 Club is, not surprisingly, on 23rd April.

Thursday April 23 at 8pm ? an opportunity to mark St George?s Day / Shakespere's Birthday.

The Dartmouth Arms pub, 7 Dartmouth Road SE23 3HN
Phone 8488 3117

Because the Dartmouth Arms is usually quite popular, early booking is recommended.
