I have a number of photographs of the Vernon Chalk family from Beckenham that were found in a junk shop but one of a butcher's shop seems more likely to be of Frederick's shop in Forest Hill. Frederick was Vernon Beecher Chalk's brother.
I've worked out a family tree from the writing on the back of the photos and it seems as though they come from James and Deborah Chalk from Barking. I should like to pass the photos on to the family if I can find a present member.

This is one of the 22 photos of the Chalk family of butchers, poulterers, fishmongers, graziers in Beckenham and Forest Hill.

That's an absolutely fantastic photo. It did make me think, however, how much more meat people must have eaten, and that I wouldn't particularly like to have walked past it!
