Hello there,
I've just moved into Taymount Grange, and cannot get TV signal. I've heard that it's pretty tricky to get good signal here, but am getting nowhere fast with how to rectify it.
Some folk say the signal is too strong, some that it's too weak. I've tried an ariel with a booster and nothing comes through, apart from an occasional blast of white noise.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks Smile

I'm in Netherby Road. Analogue TV signal is tricky here too. However, Freeview gives a perfect picture, no problem. I went digital as soon as it was available purely to get a decent picture. It's cheap, worked for me with the existing aerial, and sorted a long standing problem.

Have you tried an internal aerial which plugs into the mains? I live next door in Forest Croft, and my signal is perfect with that.

Sky might give you a much better picture. But would cost you a monthly subscription.

Think sky dishes are probably not allowed on the outside of Taymount Grange.

We don't have internal ariel sockets in "the Grange" Sad So I have to use my own ariel and dishes aren't allowed Sad
I'll look into digital though, thank you all for your replies... any more ideas most welcome! :D

I should think Freeview would be your best bet. You could try going to the UKFree TV website where you can find out everything you ever wanted to know about aerials and TV reception etc.

Once you are on the site, if you click on "Transmitters" and then click on "Freeview transmitters" and then "Crystal Palace", you will find a forum dedicated to the Crystal Palace transmitter where you can explain your problem and get some expert help and advice.

Judging by the number of people who use the forum you are not alone in having problems!

For those of you who find Freeview breaks up or you can't receive most of the channels, you can get Freesat where you can buy a dish/receiver from over £50 plus an installation fee and get over 200 free channels including all of BBC and ITV channels, plus Channel 4 and Five.

It all depends on which side of the block you are.
If you are facing towards Crystal Palace you will get good reception with a decent indoor aerial. If not there's little hope.

I used to live in Forest Croft and the problem is the same. However we were able to put roof aerials up which solved the problem, although Sky Dishes weren't allowed. We also had the entire block wired up for cable, for free, when it came to the area, but I believe the management of Taymount Grange wouldn't allow it.

If you are facing Crystal Palace you could be suffering from too strong a signal and a small in-line attenuator might help, probably about 6db. Fits between the aerial lead and the TV. Get one in Maplins.
