Has anyone heard that Tesco have their eye on one of the shops on Brockley Rise.
I am looking on the Lewisham Council site for the details - but no luck so far.

Yes, there were discussions on here some time ago;

this thread is rescued from archive obscurity:

... but let's not get back on the subject of rumours

Thanks for the link.
The rumour is rife among the shops on Honor Oak Park.
Apparently a large sum has been offered to a shop on the parade on Brockley Rise near the junction with HOP...

which shop would this be that has been offered said sum? The only one large enough would be Brockley Supermarket

I heard Concarde Express, apparently the freeholder owns a run of properties there and it may be a run of shops that are taken over, would make sense if the car wash place reverted to a petrol station. Please bear in mind this all hearsay but no smoke without fire!

"smoke", "fire" and "petrol station" should not be mentioned in the same post for fear of starting a panic!

King kong would not be a million miles away.
A petrol station is just what we need to improve the area. Is it not congested enough on HOP/Brockley Rise in the mornings.

You don't get new independent petrol stations as now the market is dominated by the supermakets. Profit is pretty low and hence you only make money if you have a large shop attached, unless you can charge a premium out in the sticks.

What does Jim (D) think - he is something big on the society for independent grocers (or something along those lines), but thinks Sainsburys is wonderful, with the excuse that at least it isn't the evil empire of Tescos.

BD - is there anything that he doesn't know about?
