In college in 1989 I ended up listening to 'It'll end in tears' by This Mortal Coil with a girl I'd just met. Though I had no intention of sleeping with her, we shared her bed as I was too drunk to think straight. She was definitely interested, and I knew it, but I pretended not to realise and went to sleep, as I didn't really fancy her, but liked her. When I woke the next morning and scuttled out of the room back to my halls of residence, I felt a crushing guilt. Hard to explain.
That album, coupled with a nostalgic hangover, could easily push me over the edge!

The whole of Lou Reed's Berlin is one long hangover of the past too. 'All together now..... "They're taking her children away, because they said she was a bad mother..."' Marvellous. Isn't it?
