Convenience store chain One Stop is opening at 20 Dartmouth Road, the former Paddy Power next to Sylvan Post.

The chain is owned by Tesco, but prices are higher than Tesco Express in London Road.

Many years ago it was a Tesco store.

Much better than a betting office.

Dear SE23 Community,

I would like to clarify a few important points.

When the original post was made on 3 December, our store had not yet opened. We officially opened on 5 December 2025, so it would not have been possible at that time to make an accurate comparison of prices before we began trading.

For the benefit of the community, these are the correct details:

Our meal deal is £4, compared to £4.25 at Tesco Express on London Road and £5.50 at Sainsbury’s.

We offer the largest drinks range for a meal deal in Forest Hill, including options not available at Tesco.

We currently have an offer of two large bottles of soft drinks for £3.50, which is not available at Tesco Express, alongside several other competitive promotions.

We also offer a frozen meal deal for £6, which the Tesco Express on London Road does not provide.

This forum exists to support and inform the local community, and it should be used in that spirit.

By profession, I am an accountant and have worked with various local government organisations as a Chief Accountant. Throughout my career, my focus has always been on serving the community—helping organisations complete their accounts and audits on time so they could focus on delivering essential local services.

My business is built on ethics and strong principles.

Serving the community is not just part of my business — it is part of my life.

Welcome and good luck Harbham!

I'm a long-term landlord commercial and residential landlord in Dartmouth Road (since 1986) so it's really good to see a serious business open along here, especially one that's offering convenience and value for money - and gets rid of a betting office scourge!

I can appreciate why you've come on here to rebut/correct the earlier "prices are higher than Tesco" comment but, personally, even if you're a little bit more expensive on some items and combos, who wants to trudgeall the way up the hill and across a busy petrol station forecourt to save a few p on a Clubcard meal deal?

I'm with you (but I would say that woudn't I!), and, more importantly, I'm sure that most, if not all, of my 20+ tenants along Dartmouth Road will be with you too!

I should say that all of this is tempered with a little bit of concern for the smaller independent mini-marts here, so I hope they have their own little niches or can adapt if your business makes things tight for them (which, as a retailer elsewhere and as a shop business proprietor on Dartmouth Road previously myself, I've had to deal with).
