No water or low pressure

We’re sorry to customers in the Crystal Palace area who have no water or lower pressure than normal due to a burst pipe.

Our engineers have located the source of the leak and are working to restore water to customers and fix the pipe as soon as possible. We have now restored supply to 5000 customers (shown on the left of the map below).

We are also continuing to work to resolve the flooding at Crystal Palace Pumping Station, following a separate problem there yesterday which is also adding to the supply problems.

In the meantime we’re pro-actively contacting everyone in the affected area who has pre-registered with us as having special requirements, such as being medically reliant on water, so we can make sure we give them the help and support they need. We are also in the process of identifying a bottled water station in the affected area, we will update this page when we have this open.

Thames Water website has just been updated to say that a bottled water station is now open at Sainsburys in Southend Lane...

No update on ETA for repair though

Having got back from work to find water still cut off, drove the 20 minutes over to water station at Sainsbury’s Bell Green to find there is no water available and no information as to when it will be. Bought bottled water instead and will bill TW accordingly. Not that they’ll pay up, of course. I received an email a few days ago to say how much my bill will be increasing to pay for the mess they’ve created. I think I’m beyond furious.

Hey Thames Water, so we are not looking at a fix today or possibly tomorrow are we, we're talking about days with OUT water.

What's the plan then, are you going to tell your customers?

A bit of honesty, openness and being transparent with your customers would be nice. In fact some fresh running water would be ideal, but based on the current situation that ain't going to happen is it?

Aparently they had to close it due to Security incidents..probably people looting the water or some other moronic behaviour

It also begs the question as to why there is only one water station for the whole affected area, stretching from Crystal Palace to One Tree Hill, which must have a population of quite a few thousand. Surely it would be logical to have three or four placed strategically along the length of the area. However, we are dealing with TW, so logic won’t come into it.

Thames water latest update this evening which repeats the previous message and says absolutely nothing new.

We’re sorry to customers in the Crystal Palace area who have no water or lower pressure than normal due to a burst pipe. We are continuing to work through the night to repair the burst.

Our teams and engineers have managed to divert excess water from other areas to bring most customers back into supply, though pressure may be lower than normal, especially in taller buildings and some customers may experience a temporary loss of supply during high demand periods this evening and tomorrow morning. Some additional customers may experience no water overnight but we’re working hard to find ways to limit the time you’ll be out of supply.

As your water returns, you may notice your water is cloudy or has bubbles in it, this is due to air trapped in the pipes and is still safe to drink.

If you don’t have any water, our bottled water station located at Sainsburys Southend Lane, SE26 4PU has now closed for the evening; but you can collect bottled water from the same location from 9am tomorrow morning.

We apologise to customers who were unable to collect water from this location yesterday as we had to close the site due to a security incident.

We have been proactively contacting everyone in the affected area who has pre-registered with us as having special requirements, such as being medically reliant on water, so we can make sure we give them the help and support they need. On the matter of standpipes being installed - that practice has generally stopped.

Water Companies now require any water being drawn via a standpipe be metered and paid for through a controlled meter system. Their view is that no-one should get free water, irrespective of whether there is an emergency or not.

Not that unscrupulous water users would roll up for a free fill.

Having one bottled water distribution centre for such a widely affected area is an absolute nonsense and does not address how the most vulnerable and particularly those with no access to vehicles can cope.

A better planned distribution network should be implemented soonest.

How much of an increase in our water bills has Thames Water forecast for us for such an abysmal service?

Question - Why have Thames Water failed to set up bowsers as I believe they are called so people can fill buckets to flush toilets?
