Did anyone check this document before it was published, clearly not.

If you cannot even write a grammatically correct sentence, how on earth are you going to take a statement that makes any sense or write a report about an incident or attend court and provide evidence to a Magistrate or Judge??????

Just stick to doing the job and try doing some proper police work, i.e. catching some criminals. That's what you get paid for.

The police have an increasingly demanding job to do these days without having to take additional flak from people like you criticising them for grammatical errors in a newsletter, which they provide to try to inform and help the residents of their local community.

I can't imagine how challenging and demanding it must be to be a police officer these days when so many things are stacked against them when trying to maintain law and order.

I really appreciate their efforts, especially given how poorly resourced and supported they are.

No, not moaning, if they actually did some proper police work, attended incidents and caught criminals I'd be happy.

But no, let's write a newsletter that actually says very little, rather than catching and charging criminals, taking a robust case to court and getting the thugs locked away with the judicial system. What the borough needs is more properly trained police constables on the beat, being seen and being proactive, not PCSO's who add nothing.

Criminals they can do what they like and the chances of being caught, arrested and prosecuted are diddly squat, so crime at all levels escalates. More phone thefts, more stabbings, more shop lifting, more petty criminal activities, more drugs being openly used on the streets.

Unfortunately for everyone, including the police, policing has changed.

I'm saying that as an outsider who doesn't really know. But, from what I can see, there are too few police on the ground and in police stations to be able to cope with crime and anti-social behaviour issues, whether due to alcohol or drug abuse or mental health. There's a lack of respect for the police, which doesn't help them, and I understand that they need to do copious amounts of paperwork to record even the most straightforward stop or arrest, so the job must be increasingly frustrating and thankless for them, but they still try for us.

After all that, I do share your sense of dispair in seeing so much crime going unpunished, but I'm sure that's more to do with under-funding than as a result of a PSCO spending maybe half a day every two or three months putting a community newsletter out.

As far as I'm aware the only police station in the borough is Lewisham, with civilian staff behind the desk. I had to report something, waited ages and ages to be seen only to be told "it can only be done online". Neither proactive nor helpful. One police station for an entire borough is laughable.

I agree that resources are stretched to breaking point, but that is down to the Mayor who extortionately increases his part of the council tax bill and every year, but their is no improvement in the service provided, the opposite happens, year on year crime levels increase and escalate.

People have lost respect for the police because of how they behave towards the public in general and the bad police within the Met who have been exposed and brought to justice. They reap what they sow, treat people as individuals, be helpful, be kind, be considerate, be civil, provide the service and at least meet the expectations of those they are there to serve. They then may find people give them the respect they want.

Ultimately it comes down to being seen, being proactive with the public and delivering results, so that the levels of criminality decrease. London is unfortunately no longer the place it was or a safe place to live.

There are some baddies in the police, but my experience is that they're in the minority.

So much in society today needs a reset to make common decency less of a rarity.

I'd start by improving things with a cost-free and healthy dose of discipline, respect and manners.
