Hi, I'm trying to determine the level of interest in chess amongst Forest Hill residents with a view to potentially setting up formal/informal/regular/occasional chess events locally with some friends. So, are there any closet chess players of any level out there who would be interested in a game or two over a pint?

Don't worry.
I think it is just the loser that gets tied down, and only if they ask nicely.

Roz,
I'd be interested. I'm a very inexperienced player but not a beginner. So, no great shakes but wanting to improve - great fodder for you, if you're remotely any good.
I do have a one year old baby, which means I'd need to negotiate any time away of an evening. But that can be done.
Kind regards,
David

I would be interested. I'm not very good, and have not played for years, but I know the basics.

I captained the BT London team for many but probably haven't picked up a pawn for about 10 years. I gave up after a game where I was playing an elderly gentleman who had a heart attack and died at the board. Dangerous game Chess

Just to clear up a myth, I can't really play either but have been trying to learn ; my partner does and he's at county standard.
The point about having a chess evening is to inspire and develop an interest in the game at all levels and a little more locally than the Dulwich Crown!

Yes, that would be good. The reason I have hardly ever played since I learned chess at Primary School is that it is so rare to find someone else who can play.

I would be up for it, not a great standard but it's fun even if you lose to a better player.

I'm new to the area and I used to love chess and play a lot many years ago. Unfortunately I'm a bit of a rusty old dad these days but would love to join your informal group if the occasion arises. I work from home a few days a week so have a fairly flexible schedule.

I may be interested.
In the meantime, I play online at redhotpawn if anyone is interested in a game. Send me a message for my user name and we can set-up a game. I am not very good at all!!!

Yes, please roz, I?d love to join you in any chess events. I observe that The Hob have a bunch of games lurking in the corner. If we tire of chess then I can take anyone out in a game of Jenga. Or Connect 4. I think I saw Jumanji in there, too.

I've just had a look at that website, and it seems very good.

I would also be interested in playing chess. Haven't played for years. Personally, would prefer a daytime slot, but recognise others can't always do that.
