About midday today, out for a walk with the dog, just turned off Perry Rise, and heard a mighty thump. Thinking for a moment and almost not bothering to look, I decided to turn back anyway.
As I walked back onto Perry Rise, from Preistfield road I noticed a skip at a rather awkward angle.
Thinking it had lust been moved by workman, I carried on, but only for a second.

Looking up the hill to Paxton Road, it was suddenly apparent.
A single decker bus, for one reason or another had struck the skip.
Walking to the front of the bus.... what a mess.

Very frustrating moment for me, im usually the first to help with these things, but broken glass everywhere, and having the dog with me was a poor combination. So the best I could do was call 999.

Took a couple of pictures too, not of people etc, just the actual bus. Apologies if anyone thinks this is poor taste.
No apparent injured is the good news Smile

No one appeared injured to be honest, but an elderly lady took a big tumble trying to get out of the emergency exit at the rear of the bus, as the driver was calling the accident in, and not helping clear the bus. Not sure what the procedure is after an accident, but first things first in my mind, check for casualties and get them all off and safe.

Indeed, maybe even an idea for Boris.....
Maybe the new generation of routemasters needs to have the doors on the front corner, so the driver can monitor passengers.....

As for the skip, it indeed needs a licence, and most skip companies will not deliver one to public land without one these days, however signage is a tough one. Whats needed at 12 in the afternoon?

nice photos, Snazy. On a sunny day even a bashed up bus can look appealing!
I have been trying to think up a witty one-liner involving a skip and a bus, but failing miserably so far.
There must be a joke in this somewhere.......anyone......?

Perry Rise to Lewisham hospital, just a skip away (as in very short journey) Smile
How about that one?

Not sure about nice photo's though, took the wrong lense with me sadly, so had to do the best I could, especially as they would not move out of the way to get the picture of the bus.

These however are more my thing Smile

When I had a skip outside my house two police officers knocked at my door and said I needed to lamp it. Hopefully, our police force is still as vigilant as it used to be.

I believe the bus lamped this one already!

But it is hardly causing a problem not having lanterns on the skip in the middle of the day.

Bus driver doesn't skip for joy?

Skipper of a bus goes for a joy ride?

lol @ some of the suggestions !

Na, I agree with Michael, even if it DOES need lamps, not seeing it in the middle of the day is a poor excuse.

Amazingly the skip has today been replaced, however this time its on the side road!

Thanks for the photos - clearly a stupid and irresponsible place to put a skip.

Judging from the 2nd photo, it looks like the skip may have been left a bit too close to the traffic island. However, surely other buses had navigated past it previously?

Everything had navigated past it before hand, there was indeed room to pass. Unfortunatly, as is the case with a lot of buses these days I think the bus was travelling a little too fast, and trying to be a bit over enthusiastic with their manouvre.
Given the damage to the bus I would suggest no effort had been made to slow to a safe passing speed.

I would not say the skip was placed in a dangerous position, rather that the driver was being rather careless. I have seen much smaller gaps left by skips and delivery lorries before.
In an ideal world it would have been further up or down the road, but there are post and a raised kerb preventing that.

PS I should point out that the skip had only been there a short while, but had been passed by many vehicles in that time.
