I’m having a clear-out and would be interested to know if there’s a local alternative to our charity shops — a way of getting pre-loved, good condition children's toys etc to families for whom even charity shop prices are a bit of a stretch. Is there any equivalent to food banks, for example? Thanks for any suggestions!

Depending on what they're looking for at any given time (which is often, but not always, what you want to get rid of) we use Lewisham Donation Hub.
