I was under the impression that Elachi was moving round the corner to take the Dewaniam site. There was a flurry of building work in the old Dewaniam premises towards the end of 2018 but it seems to have been quite since, despite the notices in the window promising restaurant opening soon.

It would be good to have a bit more choice. Babur is excellent but it isn't cheap - special occasions only. A good but reasonable Asian restaurant would be welcome (something like Radha Krishna Bhavan in Tooting), as would a good Spanish style bar (like El Vermut in Nunhead or Maria's Tortilla in East Dulwich), or a regional Chinese restaurant (like Water House in Rotherhithe).

We must have hit peak pizza in SE23, but more or less anything else good and affordable would be welcome. It would be especially good if something opened and stayed open. We need to reach a critical mass of good places to eat and drink so SE23 becomes something of a destination. It's all a bit spread out at present, and the interimable roadworks on Dartmouth Road didn't help.

There does seem to be work taking place at the new premises but haven’t heard any rumours about it reopening for a while now. Anyone have any news of it?

It all seems to have stalled at the new premises. But at the old Elachi site, the scaffolding and hoardings have gone up.

At the old site, there is also a planning application/change of use notice regarding splitting the premises so that one side is A3 use (restaurant, like the old Elachi) and one is A1 use, which covers a wide range of shop uses ("Shops, retail warehouses, hairdressers, undertakers, travel and ticket agencies, post offices, pet shops, sandwich bars, showrooms, domestic hire shops, dry cleaners, funeral directors and internet cafes.")
