Lewisham Council have released details of how to recycle your Christmas tree:

Quote:
Recycle your real Christmas tree at any of the following points, throughout January 2019. Trees can be brought to the recycle points at any time of the day.

Hilly Fields, entrance in Hilly Fields Crescent
Deptford Park, entrance in Scawen Road
Telegraph Hill, Pepys Road/Kitto Road entrance
Talbot Place, Blackheath
Mountsfield Park, entrance at top of George Lane
Sydenham Wells Park, entrance Wells Park Road
Forster Memorial Park, entrance top of Whitefoot Lane
Northbrook Park, Baring Road entrance
Mayow Park, entrance in Mayow Road
Chinbrook Meadows, Amblecote Road
Manor House Gardens, Old Road entrance
If you have a garden waste bin, you can use this to dispose of your real Christmas tree. Just cut it into sizes no more than 10cm thick and 50cm long.

Make sure you remove all decorations from you tree before you recycle it. You can't put artificial trees in your garden waste bin.

Theres a sign saying it's an official drop off point - last year it wasn't but the world and its mother dropped their trees there anyway

On a related Christmas tree subject. Our tree turned out to be infested with giant conifer aphids - we only realised when we saw them crawling along the skirting board and then found they were in the carpet, curtains, among the CDs... Apparently they have become well established in cultivated Christmas tree plantations. Once the tree starts to run out of food for them, they go off exploring. They will probably just die off in your home unless you have some other coniferous plant for them to eat, but you will have been freaked out before then by the long lines of them fanning out across your living room.

Needless to say, within an hour of identifying the source, the tree was outside the house. They attack the bark of the tree and produce a sticky residue so you might need to clean your decorations if you have had these uninvited guests.
