Lewisham are proposing a new Conservation Area in the Perry Vale area, to include the Christmas houses on Perry Vale (the ones that spell TED CHRISTMAS and LAURA), part of Sunderland Road, most of Gaynesford Road, part of South Road (including Christ Church) and 3 houses at the top of Church Rise.

Consultation information here

The consultation started in September and ends tomorrow (Tuesday 23 October) and Lewisham would like to hear views from anyone who knows the area, not just immediate residents.

Obviously a lot of people are familiar with the Perry Vale section but many people use the Trilby/Sunderland Road alley and therefore know the South Road section quite well.

If you’re familiar with the area please consider looking at the proposal and completing the short survey.

Genuinely interesting information in the documentation about the history of the Perry streets and the conservation area.

Consultation closes today so if you want your say, don't delay...

A few years ago Lewisham listed our group of Christmas houses in Sydenham. Not a conservation area - but of "significant local interest".

I would have opposed a conservation area because while they are wonderful houses and quite advanced for their period - they are no longer energy efficient and can't be made so without destroying their character.

Hence we should look forward to a time they will be replaced. Hopefully by something even better. We must be careful the past doesn't destroy the future.
