Hi all,

Plans in to demolish the co-op. The hotel will have 89 rooms and a coach stop-off point. The replacement shop unit will be small on the advice of Lewisham council at 150 sq metres. Too small for co-op I wonder?

Not the most inspiring of façades but the concept of a hotel on this site is worthy of support. Might even act a catalyst to get the area south of tracks tidied up.

Would be interested to know where the FH society stand on this. Hopefully they will offer support.

Quite looking forwards to such a big change to the local area. The idea that Holiday Inn want to build suggests there is enough demand.

Biggest downsides for me are losing the Co-Op, at least while it is built, but not sure they are returning. Where will I get my Jalapeno bread rolls from!! Rofl
And the narrowing of the line of sight for the corner.

Fingers crossed it gets the go ahead asap.

Heard it being discussed yesterday with a reliable source, who says the Co-Op will finally close in September of this year.

Not sure if that is in line with any works beginning, or just the end of the period in which they wish to remain open with the closure pending.

Will have to check planning etc to see if there has been further progress on the application.

Received a letter today advising that it has been granted planning. Here’s to a brighter future south of the tracks.

You receive letters if you write to the planning dept. either to complain or to support an application. This was the first time I had actually supported an application as I generally only bother when objecting! You also get invites to planning meetings related to the case. Local democracy in action.
