Is it possible to remove the RMT's franchise and bring them under commuter control?

The union boys (why is it always men who run rail unions?) say that this dispute is about health and safety. That is about as credible as Blair's 45 minutes from mass destruction.

Personally I would feel a lot safer with driverless trains. If train accidents are like plane accidents then the statistics would support that argument as most plane crashes are due to pilot error. So to take the RMT's argument to its logical conclusion we shouldn't just get rid of conductors...

Am I reading this wrong? This notice on nationalrail.co.uk says Southern services will be disrupted 'on every day' from 6 December until further notice. Forever?

ASLEF drivers will be striking on days between the RMT strike dates. Unlike the RMT strike, it's likely that Southern services through FH/HOP will be affected to some extent. With trains in the wrong place etc, it'll affect services on a daily basis.
