Just to let people know that we have had our cars broken into and rifled through twice in the last four weeks. They are using a key cloning device and overriding the central locking system so there are no signs of forced entry (apart from scattered documents and opened glove boxes)
The police have said there is nothing they can do in terms of gathering forensics but just to be extra vigilant and leave NOTHING inside your vehicles.

Sorry to here that. We are on Whatman Road and had our car broken into last night by forcing the lock. Glove compartment emptied, possessions rifled through and scattered, but nothing of value to take. They took about £2 pounds of loose change. Obviously not impressed by cheap sunglasses and Heavy Metal cd collection. Reporting online to Police just to give them notice that criminals are in this area at the moment.

The police said there was another reported incident this morning too. I wouldn't be surprised if t is the same person/group. We are no considering setting up CCTV to look over our cars but not sure if it will be much use. Maybe stickers in the window saying there is nothing of any value in the car but again could be a waste of time.

If so, then I suggest trying this:

1. When remotely locking your car, make sure that you see, or hear, the notification that it is locked (e.g. lights flash or there is a beep);
2. If you do not see this, then use your physical key, if you have one, to lock the car. Don't press the remote lock a second time.

Am not saying that you won't get thieved this way but I think it could mitigate the issue if they are listening for a second signal to reverse engineer the key.

We are considering breaking the fuse on the remote locking system on both our cars and reverting back to good old fashioned manual locking.

Community police have just popped by and it seems there were a few other car thefts reported over the weekend.
