Recently, your local policing team at Forest Hill have noticed a small but significant rise in the number of moped and scooter related thefts within Forest Hill Ward.

To keep your Moped or Scooter as safe as possible, follow these simple steps;

Keep your keys safe when at home – many vehicles are stolen following a house break- in. Also, don’t leave your keys in an obvious place, for example on the hall table as keys can be stolen through the letterbox. Park your moped or scooter with care. Try to park your machine in a busy, well-lit area and if possible near to CCTV cameras particularly at night or if leaving the vehicle unattended for a long time.

If you haven’t got a garage, use a British Standard Approved ground anchor when locking your Moped or Scooter over night - Don’t just run a chain through the back wheel only! If you do have a garage, ensure it is as secure as possible using British Standard 5-lever mortice locks and bolts for side and rear doors. Metal up and over doors can also be secured with purpose made locks fitted to either side, to prevent leverage. Wooden double doors can be secured with heavy hasps and staples and closed shackle padlocks.

If you are unsure of what to use or just want advice in general regarding the security of mopeds or scooters, please contact us on 020 8721 2723 or e-mail us on ForestHill.SNT@met.police.uk

Yours sincerely, Michael Hill PC 195PL
