New York is hardly a good comparison being more of a rental market than a home ownership one. My experience of rent control was that it stopped the worst excesses of greed. If the return of rent controls led to some landlords fleeing the market then one of the drivers of rapid house price growth would be curtailed freeing up dwellings for sale.

If you follow through what each of these Labour people said, as reported in the earlier post, rather than rely on the selective quotes, you will find that they are referring to rent controls of the kind existing in the 1970s. They all support keeping rent rises tied to the rate of inflation and/or extending tenancies to give renters more security.

This area is gentrifying. There are aspirational people moving in and buying homes - making a long-term investment in the area - yet there is no one in the council that represents us. ]

As a post script, can I just point out that you shouldn't assume that aspirational home-owners are tories in this area. Clearly many of them vote labour, green and lib dem.

Taking a step back many people do not relate to any party these days.

I've been invited to a Lib Dem meeting in Feb by a friend which I will attend. As I've said before I'm not a supporter of any party but will go and have a chat.

Agreed CB. I long ago passed the stage where I felt any real aliegance to a particular party and now tend to vote for the least worst option. As the man said “Side? I am on nobody's side, because nobody is on my side".
