Quite a few people have been interested in taking on the Dartmouth Tandoori but have not done due to water damage with the electrics in the ceiling and the ceiling needing replaced too.
Hopefully this is rectified soon.

And a company which supports anti-abortion and ultra-rightwing causes. Great. This we don't need.

Yes. I think we would all prefer empty shops. You don't have to buy anything from them.

I won't be buying anything from Domino's. Of course empty shops are not good, but we could hope for something better than this -- and nothing better will move in if there aren't available spaces.

Couldn't agree more with the hairyboggart. I'm unlikely to be a regular customer of Dominoes either, but if they're willing to fix the ceiling and electrics, pay business rates to the council and employ local people then I would be delighted to see them move in.
There seems to be an instinctive hostility to many new businesses moving into Dartmouth Road that I simply don't understand.

I wasnt being hostile, and having a teenager, we will probably use it. I would just like to see something different, instead of estate agents, manicure shops, hairdressers etc.
Also, we had a domino's years ago, at the old wok express shop.

The best businesses for the high street are those that generate foot fall rather than a fleet of motorcycles riding across the pavement or parked on a narrow street. Just like with the Honor Oak and the Stanstead Road proposal, I would be interested in hearing how the bikes are managed and where they are parked (hopefully round the back, if possible). A loss of customer parking on Dartmouth Road would be a negative step in high street regeneration plans.
But a new shop is generally better than a closed shop, and it will provide local employment.
Dominos doesn't support anti-abortion and ultra-rightwing causes, it's founder does, but he only owns around 7% of the company (he sold 93% for $1 billion, so your purchase of a pizza isn't really going to make a difference to the causes he can financially support).

I completely agree that fast food chains aren't a best case scenario for empty units and that it will be really important that the rules on mopeds are properly drafted and enforced. But I also think it's important that Forest Hill isn't seen as somewhere that is a difficult place to open a new business

Ok, thanks for the correction on the politics of Domino's. I still don't want another pizza takeaway place on Dartmouth Road. Would prefer and independent shop or restaurant.

What we would prefer and what we get are two very different things. People on this forum are very good at stating what they would prefer but don't often seem to do anything about it ie open a business or shop themselves. Independent stores and businesses aren't just spontaneously drawn to Forest Hill (or most places for that matter) - they need to have incentive and encouragement to come here. Seems to me our town team and Portas stuff seems to have disappeared and lead to pretty much nothing - with a few exceptions. There are lots of empty units on Dartmouth Road so anyone wanting to open a greengrocers, book shop, male outfitters, good deli (note - good), a stationers, brilliant chemist, brilliant florist, or even an ice cream shop has lots of choice. I won't be using Domino's either, or any of the other Pizza offerings, but Domino's presumably think plenty of our fellow residents will. Perhaps some of the friendly local shopkeepers can get together a welcome party for them to make them feel really at home. Or maybe report their pizza making ability to Trading Standards - I'm sure that will go down well and will be taken lightly!

I rejoice that an empty shop is full. I rejoice a popular chain has arrived. I rejoice that I have another takeaway option. I rejoice that its unllikely to serve homemade ice cream.
Seriously. I like dominos. Lordship lane has one so we should too! Let's welcome them!

Yesterday, Pizza Hut.
Tomorrow, Domino's Pizza.
Maybe someday, I trust and prey, Nandos.

We did have a McDonald's once too. When they return our job is done.

Call me old-fashioned, but could you share with us your cast iron proof of this?

There's no proof. The pizza bases are unleavened.

Are they going to be selling home made ice cream?
