Just been a total loser and took a pic of the menu. Looks awesome, and not too badly priced. Why yes, I will have a whole rotisserie chicken, thank you. And chips[/i]

Seems reasonable.

Does anyone know what's upstairs? Is it a dining area?

From the FHSoc's website -

Upstairs you will find a feature cocktail bar with the best Gin, Vodka and Rum collection in South London. The cocktails will be quickly and deliciously created by our very own mixologist, who will train and manage our bar team.

Can someone describe the difference between an "artisan baker" and a baker please?

About £3:50 per loaf, I believe. Laugh

I shall certainly be giving it a go, mind you. Feeling quite spoilt for choice nowadays - a big difference to when I moved here 15 years ago!

£3 for a side of fries
£3 for charred brocolli?!

Suddenly not a cheap(ish) meal!

Think I'll bring my own burnt brocolli from home!

Guess how much it is for a side of fries/veg at Dartmouth Arms or the PerryVale?

Perhaps they are not looking to compete with your own burnt broccoli. Smile

Declaration: I was invited to the free tasting but was unable to attend.

Answer: £3.50 and £3.

I believe The Signal opened last night - anyone go along? Haven't seen much feedback yet.

I tweeted them prior to opening to express concern that they had marketed themselves as focusing on local craft beer but when I looked through the window all I could see was Carlsberg, Estrella, Aspinall cider etc. They replied to say they would have Brixton and Meantime beers (didn't specify whether that was on draft or in bottles which is an important distinction for me).

Hoping to pop in next week to scope it out.

Yeah I had a quick look in yesterday and the beer selection is bland. Ales were theoretically Doom Bar, London Pride and a local one from Brixton but none of them were actually on at 8pm. The tap beers were just the regular ones you can get anywhere. Meantime was on but that's hardly a rarity nowadays. Didn't see the bottle range. From the marketing blurb I had the impression they were going for a beer offer like the Sylvan but it seems not (good for the Sylvan).

The interior is very wood heavy to an almost parodic level. It's smart but not very distinctive.

Anyway I will go back and actually try the food and drink at a quieter time.

I went in last night. Good atmosphere, with live music for a few hours. Beer selection isn't as good as the Sylvan post, but I think better than what was on offer when it was the hob. We shared a roast chicken with some sides. Really well cooked and excellent meat, though they went a tad heavy on the salt.
I think it's a nice addition to the area. It's got a different feel to the other pubs nearby, and I think that's a good thing as it makes for a more varied and richer town centre.

Went in at lunchtime to try some rotisserie chicken but as there was still no real beer to accompany it, decided against it. We have at least 6 breweries within 2 miles, brewing some very interesting beers; their choice (if ever available) of Doom Bar and London Pride shows a distinct lack of imagination. As for a real cider! Had a quick look upstairs in the 'cocktail bar', not sure how they can host comedy nights now with that set up. I had high hopes for an alternative to the Sylvan post and Dartmouth, what a shame!

I went in on Saturday and was served by the grumpiest bar lady I have ever met. They had run out of burgers and sausage rolls so didn't get to try the food (I was a bit scared of getting shouted at by the bar lady so didn't ask if they had any of the other food on the menu).

Hopefully they were just stressed out as they'd recently opened and things will improve.

I went in briefly both on Thursday and on Saturday before heading else where.
I always think its very difficult to judge a new establishment on the first couple of days of opening, there will always be issues. Thought they had done a good job with updating the decor however can't see any comedy being hosted upstairs in the "Cocktail bar" which is a real pity.
I would agree with the comments about the beer selection, very disappointing and generic, hopefully that will improve in time, both the Post and the All In One have a a far better range.
All in all a good addition to the area and will keep the Post and the Perry Vale on their toes!
