Potting up day for the Edible High Road is to be on Saturday 25th April from 11.30 - 3.00pm at the Devonshire Road Nature Reserve.

We will have more than 60 tubs to put into sacks, fill with compost and plant with bay, lavender or olive standards smaller lavenders, Sanvitalia - and tie a large red ribbon around the middle and label. Gardening gloves, and a trowel would be helpful.

Helpers are needed to do the above and ANY help, even if you can't spend the whole day, would be most welcome.

With any luck these tubs will last through the summer, through winter and right on until next year, making Forest Hill a more attractive place to visit and work in.

Next steps to brightening the high street happen this Saturday (9th May).
We could do with a few volunteers to help unloading plants and distributing them to shops.

Please let me know if you would be able to spend a hour (from 3:30pm-5pm) helping with this task. And afterwards you will be able to walk past all the shops and know that you helped make it happen.

send me a PM or email at

Official launch event will take place on Saturday 16th May.

We've got most of the plants out in the high streets and they are looking great.

The Edible High Road launch next week (see flyer above) will include some stunning "Fiver Fest" offers from many of the shops in the town centre.
Further details in shops or on
If that's not enough to tempt you to town centre next weekend, how about a visit from Trev and Simon from 'Going Live' in the 1990s, who will officially open the Edible High Road.

I walked past St Davids coffee shop at the weekend and their wisteria is in full flower and it looks lovely - check it out before it fades!

They're participating in Chelsea Fringe this year so have other plants displayed too, and appear to be having an event this Sunday:

which ties in rather nicely with the theme of the Edible High Road.

Time to redo the planters in the town centre and FH station.

Saturday, 30th May from 2.30pm. Meet in forecourt of FH station.

Bring protective gloves of some sort, trowel and small plastic bag for collecting weeds.

Don't bring children as we will be working close to roads and traffic and do remember to work within your own capacity so avoid heavy lifting and over-stretching if you have back problems.

Do try to come to help - even half an hour will make a difference. Our main aim is to make our town centre more pleasant but we would also really like to try to get an "Outstanding" RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) award again this year. The more help we have the more likely to get better results.
