Can anyone shed any light on this? It's closed at the top with access only.

Still closed as at this evening. What is going on here? I've seen the post about the police enforcing the one-way system, but closing it to legitimate users going the right way is throwing out the baby with the bath water. For myself, it means going up the already cramped Devonshire Road instead. When will it re-open? Does anyone know?

Just spoke to a very helpful person at Lewisham Road Safety, and she says it is not supposed to be closed yet, though there is work scheduled to be done there in a few weeks' time. Apparently, the current barriers should be moved if they haven't been already.

Wish they would close it permanently. It's a real danger to residents of Manor Mount with the amount of cars coming down illegally, especially during the evening rush hour. Somebody will get killed one of these days, perhaps then the council will take note and do something about it. They could make a fortune just by installing a camera.

I wrote to Lewisham (again) recently repeating my concern about cars racing the wrong way down Manor Mount (I did not mention parking although their response does). I said this was generally in the late afternoon early evening when traffic had backed up Honor Oak Road from the lights at the junction with the south circular. Below is their response.
Thank you for your email.
I have contacted our enforcement contractor, NSL for further information with regard to your concerns. NSL have confirmed that they do enforce illegal parking in Manor Mount. Manor Mount is part of CPZ N and has resident permit bays as well as single and double yellow lines. All of these are subject to regular enforcement.
In addition NSL enforce moving traffic contraventions (NO ENTRY) with a CCTV Van in Manor Mount. In the last 6 months the observed compliance levels were very high – only 13 Penalty Charge Notices were issued.
You mention concerns about traffic speeding. I'm afraid the Council does not have enforcement powers in this regard. Only the Police can enforce against speeding. I would suggest that you contact your local Police and ask if they would be able to carry out some sporadic enforcement.
I hope this is helpful.
Umm, not really.

Yet again the council talk rubbish. It's a very rare occurrence that you see a camera van and when you do its parked so near to the top of the road it will stop anyone attempting to drive down from Honor Oak Road on that day.

This must be an issue for other Streets and I'm sure other streets have come up with solutions. We need to find another example in another council area where they have successfully deterred drivers.
I've seen raised parking bays along a few high streets. So you have to drive up on to a smooth curb to park the car. That then leaves a thin one lane with elevation around it. So from the top when you look down, there will only be space for one car for the next 25-35 metres or so. Rather than now, where once you are past the initial 2 metres there's space for 2 (which encourages people to take the risk because they can get out of the way if another car comes up). Does this make sense?
