Oh and cycling past Peckham Rye and up Honor Road past benchley gardens and one tree hill is an end to the journey you will not forget if you live in HOP, there is a less steep alternative going up the other side of peckham rye and then through the back streets to end up coming out by HOP station.

If you cycle along Brenchley Gardens, turn right into the cemetary and then right again alongside the far perimeter and then past the swings and the old nursery, you come out onto Honor Oak Park next to the allotments. Ok, longer but voila! One Tree Hill avoided (mostly).

The excellent London Reconnections site have an article which explains how the London Bridge services are likely to run. Answers many questions, e.g. stopping lines to Thameslink will be possible but also not likely to happen:

Or in future you might be able to catch the Bakerloo line from Ladywell, Sydenham or Catford... you can tell TfL what you think about that https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/tube/ba...-extension

Reading that London Reconnection article. From what I understand.

January 2015 to 2018
Forest Hill is going to lose some trains to/from London Bridge while they construct the Bermondsey dive under between New Cross area/London Bridge. Timetable is not out yet.

This will be slightly compensated by an extra carriage on the Overground. And maybe an extra service or 2. But nothing confirmed. However, you're taking away an 8-10 car train for a 5 car.

From 2018
Forest Hill will have 8 London Bridge trains (up from 6).
London Overground could be 6-8 services.

Basically....the next 3 years is going to feel pretty busy and disrupted. Atleast we don't have to get on at Brockley!

Chris88 is right to highlight one of passing comments in London Reconnections of which I was not previously aware - the possible reduction in services on our line into London Bridge.

A reduction in the peak service from 6 to 4 trains per hour (4 to 2 in evening peak) would put additional pressure on Overground services as it would act as a disincentive for passengers from the Northern line to switch to National Rail rather than the (marginally shorter) journey on Jubilee and Overground (ELL).

With only four trains per hour leaving London Bridge to Forest Hill there is less incentive to use these slower trains, despite the extra seats. If you have to wait for 30 minutes for a train then you are simply not going to bother.

I guess I need to find out more about the possible reduced services from December if I can. If anybody else finds out more please post it here.

My journey to connect with the Jubilee Line into Bond St just seems to be getting worse and worse.
The Overground is ridiculously packed even at 7.15am I am unable to get a seat and the idea of the loss of services into London Bridge is just too much to comprehend.
Not to mention the atrocious crush at Canada water trying to get onto the Jubilee line platform....grim grim grimCursingCursingCursing

My train arrived right on time today! First time on over a month and a half.

Then they terminated it at New Cross Gate and chucked us off.

B'stards.

The 0912 from FH, by any chance? Me too. Irritating. It had been better in the last couple of days.

Yes, I shuffled down the platform and squeezed onto an Overground to Canada Water then onto LB. What a pain.

This morning was dire to say the least. 1 hour to get to LB.

What irritates me is waiting for the 9:12, it get pushed to 9:14, then 9:16 and on and on until "poof" gone. At least tell us you are going to cancel the bloody thing so we don't stand there like prunes in the heavy drizzle.

The 0900 was on time this morning.

Then it was due at 0904.

Then it disappeared from the boards and the app.

Then it trundled into the station unannounced at about 0907.

Delays this afternoon at FH. The 1357 showed up as being late and due 20 mins later. No announcement was made about its cancellation and instead the train sped through the station.

I cant be bothered with Southern any more so crammed on the overground.

It's a pity as Southern, when it works, is ideal.

Had all these experiences with Southern when I used to commute to East Croydon. In winter, used to routinely have consecutive services running through without stopping. Came to the conclusion that as there is so little turnaround time scheduled at the termini, they resort to running fast (i.e. cancelling the service but try getting them to admit that) when only minutes late as otherwise this trickles through the whole day's schedule.

Tip: if the departure board says 'Delayed' this means the the service running in the opposite direction has not even arrived at its destination yet. Can be useful info if you are prepared to take alternative routes.

Problem is they never say delayed, the arrival time just changes every 2 minutes for half an hour then they pull the service.

I have received confirmation of the plans from both Southern and Overground regarding the plans from January 2015.

Southern will be terminating two trains before they get to Forest Hill. This will impact the 06:50 and the 08:31 from Forest Hill to London Bridge. All other trains will continue to run at the same frequency as the current timetable (possibly a few minor alterations, as you would expect).

Overground have confirmed they have no plans (or spare rolling stock) to add additional services to Crystal Palace in 2015.

So the London Reconnections article was a little wide of the mark. The loss of two trains is regrettable, but it is not the disaster predicted by London Reconnections.
