Serious question as I've recently moved into SE23 ... where on earth is there any free cash machines?!!?!
All the ones I've seen and come across have all been charging ?1.85 for a withdrawal. Which is mainly why I've stuck to just chip-n-pin (only 40p / 50p charge).
Anyone know of any? (Near Brockley Rise)

Sainsbury Metro / Petrol station on Stanstead Road, just round the corner from Brockley Rise.

Only 5 I know of are Barclays , Abbey near station plus Tesco HOR and Sainsbury's plus at station itself . If you add Michael's one at
Sainsbury Sanstead Rd you have at least 6 sites in SE 23 free.
There is also one in the museum but not sure if free.

Alas there is no cash machine at The Horniman, it was removed in 2004. Why? Nobody used it beacuse of the fee, they all went down the road to the TESCO garage instead...who didn't charge then..
Is that still the case?

I think there may be another free cash machine at the Coop on Waldram Park, but I might be mistaken.

It is particularly badly served for cash machines, I agree. I live near there, and during the day the post office is fine - out of hours, you've got a 15 minute walk to Crofton Park one in one direction - similar to the Sainsbury's one in t'other. Yes, they are the nearest ones and only ones. I've got used to it.

There is now a 24 hour external cash machine at the post office on Brockley Rise and at the Post Office near Crofton Park train station.

Forest Hill station? I don't think I've been charged there.

Yes, I thought the ones at the station were free too.
I've also used the machine at the Abbey branch on London Road. Is that only free to certain customers?

Both the Forest Hill station ones are free, plus the Abbey on London Road, plus the Barclays on the corner. And also The Sainsbury's one.

The story so far, because people are getting confused:
Definitely free from west to east:
Tesco garage (London Road)
Sainsbury (London Road)
Abbey (London Road)
Barclays (Dartmouth Road / London Road)
Forest Hill station (x2)
Sainsbury Metro (Stanstead Road)
Post Office (Brockley Rise)
Barclays (Crofton Park)
Sainsburys (Bell Green)
Another possible location of a free machine:
Co-op (Waldram Park Road)

can vouch for machine at the Co-op on Waldram Park Road being free as well
as to whether it is working or not is another matter
but you can get cash back in the coop if needed

I think they areasking about cash machines at Brockley Rise, so Forest Hill Station is quite a way. The post office is the only free cash machine there. Sainsbury's in one direction and Crofton Park in the other direction (Barclays by station) are the nearest ones when post offices closed.
