At peak times we will have 14 trains an hour and they are considering the possibilities of two more on the East London Line if the demand is there. We will have 14 trains in an hour, or one every 4 minutes 20 seconds.

Hounslow has tube trains every 5 minutes, Putney has tube trains every 4 minutes, and I do not think Surrey Quays had tubes every 5 minutes, so we are finally having a service that is equivalent in frequency to tube lines (as long as you include our much loved London Bridge services as well).

I think pople are underestimating the valuue of the new service because they aren't used to using it. If your onward journey from London Bridge is by the Jubilee line to the west end, changing at Canada Water instead of London Bridge will only add about 3-5 minutes to your journey, and you'll have a much better chance of getting a seat.
My guess is that these trains will quickly become busy and we'll be calling for more, or for them to be lengthened to more than 4 carriages.

Took me an hour to get from London Bridge to Stratford today, so much for the wonderful tube service.

BD - still unconvinced

My guess is that you're correct, and that you'll be frustrated.

The decision to keep open Rotherhithe and Wapping stations means that trains longer than 4 cars will never be able to run.

The pictures of the new cars suggests that they are expecting it to get busy, and have provided lots of standing room and not too many seats - i.e. Metropolitan / standard width carriages with deep Tube-style sideways facing bench seats. Move down please!

According to http://londonconnections.blogspot.com/20...-news.html the East London Line will be reopening in January 2010 rather than the previously planned "Summer 2010".

Latest information from Southern Railway:

Stations on the extended East London Line route (which includes Forest Hill and Honor Oak Park) will transfer to London Overground on 20 September 2009. Extended East London Line services are expected to begin operations in May 2010.

Wasn't there talk of earlier opening?? Alas, a friend in Wapping will have to wait another year and a half.

Did anyone see the photograph of Boris in a ELL train?

Does anyone know if this is still on schedule? I heard a provisional date of 23 May for the ELL coming to Forest Hill - is that accurate?

I thought I saw 31 May 2010.
It is connected with the change of timetables.

There's an exhaustive update on the London Reconnections blog - linky here - not actually official, but that site's always been right in the past and it suggests that from 23rd May there will be 4 tph from Dalston right through.

This link also has expected journey times. All quite exciting really.

All the information I have says 23rd May is the new timetable day and the 1st day of the ELL from Forest Hill.

I believe that the 23 Club will be taking one of the first trains to Dalston, but I don't want to give away too many details yet!

I assume at the same place next to platforms 1 or 2.

They will only be four carriage trains so they will stop that the 'front' of the platforms (leaving you a little way to walk on platform 2).

There is no sign of secondary monitors for drivers so that the trains can stop further back, but perhaps that is why they are going to so much effort to widen the platform in the middle.

Oh, I assumed that they would be building a new track to ride next to the train track. I was wondering how they could open in May, when I haven't started building new tracks

Silly me. ConfusedBlush

What is the 23 club?

I am involved in the East London Line. Everything is on time.

London Overground will be starting trial running in April 2010 between New Cross/New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction. As have been mentioned elsewhere the services to Crystal Palace and West Croydon will start on 23rd May 2010.

In May 2011 the East London Line will be further extended to Highbury & Islington (it is not know exactly which ELL trains will be extended but I am sure that at least half the service from Sydenham will be running there).

Then in 2011 or early 2012 another branch of the ELL will open to Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill and Clapham Junction.

If you need any further information about the project please ask.

The 23 Club supports local restaurants (in SE23) by visiting them on the 23rd of every month, knowing that other like minded people will also be attending on the same day. It is open to anybody and details are posted on SE23.com and on the Forest Hill Society website.

In May (23rd of course) we are making an exception to supporting local businesses and instead going on an outing to somewhere on the East London Line. Hopefully we will be joined by Club 26 from Sydenham and anybody on the line who may wish to join us.

More details will be available closer to the time.
