Last week some very smart new black railings appeared on the Sunderland/Trilby Road footpath but yesterday they had disappeared?
It seems a shame that the council would waste money putting them up and then taking them down!

Maybe the council did not take them down. Scrap metal very valuable now.

Yes.
Drain covers disappear and people climb on school roofs to take the lead.

As I was walking past this morning there were a couple of men laying out new metal posts. I asked why they were doing the work again and one of them replied that the Council wanted the railings higher.
So there you are, the first lot weren't high enough.

Interesting! Is that to keep people in or out?

Walked past the new railings this morning and didn't notice anything different about them (apart from the fact that they're black and I thought last week's had been green). If they're higher it can't be by very much.
Anyone remember what colour the first railings were?

The old railings were black and about a foot shorter. A foot obviously makes all the difference!

The previous railings were shorter and the posts had struts sticking out. The kind that kids could trip over when playing football by the railings. I would not be surprised if families from the Sunderland Road Estate complained to the council about the potential danger to their children.
