The Chinese take away next to the Butchery on London Road appears to be undergoing refurbishment and includes in the window pictures of English breakfasts, sushi, bento boxes, and other Asian cuisine.
If this is any good it could be a great addition to forest hill.

I am desperate for a decent sushi place in Forest Hill, HOWEVER a takeaway
with a menu that includes english breakfast and has standard off the shelf food photos in the window doesn't really appeal.
I may be wrong but I sadly am less than excited about the new place...Unsure

I agree.

Stick to one thing and do it well. I'd steer clear of anywhere that did English Breakfasts and Sushi! It makes it seem as if you aren't confident in what you do.

If you put images of what you do in the window, make sure they are what you get when you but it and not stock shots, and don't do it unless the pictures are really well photographed.

We'd like a good sushi place nearby, but it has to be good.

It looks open and I picked up a takeaway menu.
No sign of English breakfasts but sushi, bento boxes, and Chinese food. I'm going to give them a try next week.
Bento boxes aren't cheap, which is probably a good sign.

Popped in at lunchtime today to try it out. So yes, they're not focusing on the decor at all, the stock photos sellotaped to the wall are a little cheesy, and the breakfast menus are just plain out of place. Confused

However, the japanese guy in there is really nice, very enthusisatic, barely speaks any english, but smiles a lot instead Smile

Suggest you go in and order, go to Sainsbury's or run an errand, then come back to pick up your food (which I did) because the 10 minutes was more like 20. They only deliver after 4pm.

But anyway, most importantly the food was really good. Got a Rainbow and a Spider roll (the latter is soft shell crab) to share with my son and we both give it a Thumbsup. Definitely better than Sapporo Icihiban in Catford which I tried last week, although a bit pricier. So don't be put off by the decor and give it a try! Also note: cash only at the moment.

I do agree though that it would be fab to have a proper sit down sushi place instead of just a takeaway.

Thanks for info..I'll give it a try.
I noticed the chef putting leaflets out and thought he looked Japanese rather than Chinese (I lived in Japan for awhile and can usually tell the difference) Which is good news as it means the Sushi won't just be like 'M&S' Or 'Pret'.
I did notice however that on the leaflets the name of the place is 'HELGA' which I found quite odd..conjures up images of Saurkraut and Bierkellers rather than Sushi and Chinese.
in fact it made me giggle Smile

I noticed this morning that the pictures of fried breakfasts have gone and it now does give the impression that they specialise in sushi etc.

Can't wait to give it a try!

Is the owner secretly reading and picking up tips, then? If so, hello! Laugh

Had a takeaway this evening, advised 20 mins took 30. Gyoza split opinion, I like wife didn't, best thing was salmon maki, tempura not crispy but I have never had crispy tempura from a takeaway, Nigri ok as was rainbow maki. Edo in crystal palace still best local jap imho.

Tried it last night. Very pleasant people and the food was pretty good. Sushi was up to scratch and fresh, nice California roll. Gyoza was deep fried which I don't like but still tasty and the ebi rolls were more than acceptable.

It's not Eddoko but as far as a take away goes, it gets my Thumbsup

I had a bit of a job placing my order, but I got a call back to confirm my address and the food was fine.
I rather liked the deep fried gyoza, which I usually find a bit floppy/sticky/falling apart, and I suspect that would been especially true in a take away (see comments above on tempura). So for me the gyoza was one of the highlights of my bento box.
The price seemed a little high to me for regular consumption, which is probably a good thing as I can't get enough sushi.
I have noticed that the restaurant is a lot busier than it used to be.
