To right Erekose. My Mum would come out in goose pimples whenever she hear the sound of the warning air raid siren. Interestingly the all clear had no effect.
As to my Dad. He was called up in the latter part of the war because of his age. My mum said "He was a different man when he returned".
I often wonder what would be the response these days to a similar threat. I suspect it would suddenly seem a lot less crowded.
