Oh come on, you have to agree with Baboonery on this one. The thread could be (for example) about a fun weekend in the Horniman Gardens - and one of the ususal suspect would say something like 'what a great day this was, but spoilt by my walk home past the rowdy drinking crowd outside the Bird in Hand.'

Hi Gingernuts.
Surely best if this subject is finished. I have already apologied if I have offended anyone.
You say , usual suspects , acknowledging I am not alone. It is ridiculous to state that , usual suspects bring Bird in The Hand into every post, but please let us drop this as it seems to upset a number of people which is not my intention.
Have a great evening.

Hear Hear Brian. I also apologise for my rants. I don't mind the winos if I'm honest, just a shame for them and for the Hill.

Penge is not a dodgy area! i go there all the time
there is not a pub in Penge thats intimidating - i have seen far worse behaviour in forest hill!
lets face it the Capitol is not exactly upmarket
Penge has a good community spirit most people seem to know each
other and the Salvation Army shop in Maple Road does a wonderful
job of bringing the community (particularly the elderly) together

Forest Hill could learn a lot from Penge the street drinkers have been disbanded but they were'nt that much of a problem Sydenham is
probably worse for that sort of behaviour

Dylan
I would agree with you about Penge, I was jesting. They do have alcohol free area. I would however say I would not include The Appalling Arms in any list of civilised hostelries.
I agree Sydenham High Street is a virtual no go area. Also The Dolphin is the only decent pub left from Cobbs to Bell Green , with possible exception of The Golden Lion.

The whole of Lewisham is now a 'Drinking Control Zone'. Details can be found here
